第二部分阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下面短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在题卡上将
该
项涂黑。
A
A survey of 1,000 people showed
that an incredible 60 percent of workers ate at
their desks
every day while two thirds take 30
minutes or less for lunch. This means they are
working an
extra 180 hours a year—equal to 16
eight-hour days. Even when staffs do manage to
leave their
desks, they are usually on
business with nearly a quarter admitting to
regularly using the time to
catch up with
professional contacts.
An academic expert in
the science of workplaces said employees were
putting their health at risk
by refusing to
take a lunch break. Dr Tissington, Associate Dean
of Business Partnerships at Aston
University,said people feel “under
pressure” at work, with many spending long hours
at their
desks, “tapping away at keyboards,
staring at screens and sitting with bad posture in
awkward
positions.”
He said it was
important for workers to take regular breaks, get
up, move and walk around a bit.
“Resting, or
taking a break in the middle of the day helps to
clear out the mind and prepares us
for a
productive afternoon,” he said. “The feeling of
guilt for taking lunch breaks is a subject that
is concerning and probably requires proper
investigation,” he added.
Dr. Tissington
mentioned he makes sure to get away from his desk
at lunchtime and deliberately
chooses to get
lunch from different places—changing his route to
get there. “This has the added
benefit of
exercise,” he explained,”and, working in a large
organization,it gives me the
opportunity to
meet different colleagues along the way.”
Office workers had admitted to sacrificing
their lunch breaks to further their careers. PR
assistant
Tammy Phillips, 24, said he hadn’t
taken a lunch break since past two years. “The way
I view it is
that I can get on with work when
it's quieter at lunch time and it never hurts your
career for the
bosses to see you at your desk
when your colleagues swan out fora sandwich,” he
said.
“The competition for jobs now is so
fierce that I’ve known friends who have quit
smoking
because they don’t want to be seen to
go out for a cigarette during the day.”
21. We can learn from the first paragraph
that_____.
A. workers want to escape from
their work
B. many workers do not take a full
lunch break
C. different workers have
different lunch breaks
D. most workers are not
permitted to have a full lunch break
22.
Which of the following is true about Dr.
Tissington?
A. He enjoys physical exercise.
B. He feels guilty at taking lunch breaks.
C. He likes to stay away from his colleagues.
D. He takes different routes to have lunch
purposely.
23. What is probably the best
title for the text?
A. Time for Having a Lunch
Break
B. An Increasingly Popular Working Style
C. Lunch Skippers Work Extra 16 Days Yearly
D. Giving up a Lunch Break: Risk Your Health
B
When I was a boy there were no smart phones,
and our television only got one channel clearly.
Still, I was never bored. The fields, hills,
and woodlands around my home were the perfect
playground. I can remember once hiking to a
nearby lake. At the backside of it I was amazed to
find an old dirt road that I had never seen
before. It was full of muddy tracks and deep woods
bordered it on both sides, but exploring it
seemed like a fine adventure.
I walked on and
on for hours. I was sure my guardian angel was
whispering in my ear “Turn
around and
head back home,” but I was stubborn, so I walked
on. There was still neither a car nor
a house
in sight. I noticed that the sun was starting to
go down and I grew scared. I didn’t want to
end up trapped on this road, and I was worried
that it would be dark before I could make my way
back to the lake again.
I continued to
walk on with something growing inside of me. My
heart was beating wildly and my
legs were
aching. I was almost in tears when I turned one
last curve and saw something in the
distance.
It was a house that I recognized. I jumped up and
down and laughed out loud. It was
still over a
mile away but my legs felt like feathers and I
hurried back to my house in no time. I
walked
in with a big smile on my face just in time for
dinner.
I remembered this recently when I saw
a sign that said “All roads lead home”. It is
true. In life, all
roads, no matter how they
twist and turn, can lead us home again. What is
important, though, is
how we travel them. Are
we going to go forth in fear or are we going to go
forth in faith? Are we
going to make this life
a terrible trip or are we going to make this life
a joyful journey? The choice
is ours.
24. Why did the author hardly feel bored when
he was young?
A. Because he could have fun
in nature.
B. Because he could watch TV all
day.
C. Because he had many friends.
D. Because he used to explore the old dirt road.
25. How did the author feel when he was
exploring the dirt road?
A. He thought he
would be scolded by his parents.
B. He felt
contradictory in mind.
C. He thought he
would be trapped in the woods.
D. He was
unconscious.
does “something” probably
mean in Paragraph 3?
A. Courage. B.
Hope. C. Fear. D. Doubt.
27.
What does the author mainly intend to tell us?
A. It’s our attitude that matters in our
life.
B. Always make choices on our own.
C. Every effort is worthwhile.
D. All
roads lead home.

Technology is supposed to make our lives
easier, allowing us to do things more quickly and
efficiently. But too often it seems to make
things harder. This increase in complexity, often
called
U.S. cost a hundred billion dollars
a year, and a recent study by Elke den Ouden, of
Philips
Electronics, found that at least half
of returned products have nothing wrong with them.
Consumers just couldn't figure out how to use
them. Companies now know a great deal about
problems of usability and consumer
behavior, so why is it that feature creep proves
unstoppable?
In part, fieature creep is the
product of the so-called internal-audience
problem: the people who
design and sell
product are not the ones who buy and use them, and
what engineers and
marketers think is
important is not necessarily what's best for
consumers. The engineers tend not
to notice
when more options make a product less usable. And
marketing and sales departments
see each
additional feature as a new selling point, and a
new way to attract customers.
You might think,
then, that companies could avoid fieature creep by
just paying attention to what
customers really
want. But that's where the trouble begins, because
although consumers find
overloaded gadgets(
配件)unmanageable, they also find them attractive.
It turns out that when
we look at a new
product in a store we tend to think that the more
features there are, the better.
It is only
once we get the product home and try to use it
that we realize the virtues of simplicity.
It
seems strange that we don't expect feature
tiredness and thus avoid it. But, as numerous
studies have shown, people are not, in
general, good at predicting what will make them
happy in
the future. As a result, we will pay
more for more features because we systematically
overestimate how often we'll use them. We also
overestimate our ability to figure out how a
complicated product works.
The fact that
buyers want bells and whistles but users want
something clear and simple creates
an unusual
problem for companies. A product that doesn't have
enough features may fail to
catch our eye in
the store. But a product with too many features is
likely to annoy consumers.
24. What does
the first paragraph mainly discuss?
A. The
benefits brought by the advanced technology.
B. The recent study conducted by Elke den
Ouden.
C. The loss caused by the feature creep
of technology.
D. Many problems of usability
known by the consumers.
29 Which of the
following is true according to the second
paragraph?
A. It is the audience problem that
leads to feature creep.
B. What matters to
designers and marketers is not good for consumers.
C. Feature creep brings blessings to the
people in marketing and sales.
D. The
engineers will not pay attention to the quality of
the product
30. What do we know about the
buyers in paragraph 4?
A. They are deeply
convinced that all the products work in simple
way.
B. They are fed up with the more and more
features of the products.
C. They are too
confident of their ability to use the complicated
products.
D. They are quite clear about the
products which will make them happy.
31.
What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.
Saying No to Feature Creep is No Easy Thing
B.
Feature-heavy Products in Demand
C. The More
Features, the Better
D. Simplicity Outweighs
Complexity
D
After a morning hike in the Saneum
HealingForest,46-year-old firefighter Kang Byoung-
wook has
tea made from the bark of an elm
tree, practices yoga (瑜伽),and makes a picture with
dried
flowers. He is one of 40 firefighters
taking part in a three-day program, the aim of
which is to
offer“forest healing森林治愈);the
firefighters all have posttraumatic stress
disorder (创伤后应
激障碍).
Saneum is one of three
official healing forests in South Korea. Soon
there will be 34 more. South
Koreans-many of
whom suffer from work stress, digital addiction,
and great academic pressure
have accepted the
medicalization of nature with great enthusiasm.
There is increasing evidence that being
outside in a pleasant natural environment is good
for us.
But how many of us get to enjoy nature
regularly? Fewer and fewer, it seems. According to
Lisa
Nisbet, a psychology professor at Canada
s Trent University, evidence for the benefits of
nature is
pouring in at a time when we are
most disconnected from it.
things will,
like shopping or TV.
So what are some of the
benefits of nature that Nisbet refers to? Being
surrounded by nature has
one obvious effect:
It calms us and reduces our stress levels. This
has been shown to lower blood
pressure and
heart rates.
Another experiment conducted by
psychologist Stephen Kaplan found that people who
took a
50-minute walk in a park had better
attention and short-term memory than those who
took a
walk along a city street.
Perhaps
what's more surprising is that nature may also
make us more creative. David Strayer, a
psychologist at the University of Utah, showed
as much with a group of participants, who
performed 50 percent better on creative
problem-solving tasks after three days of
wilderness
backpacking.
In fact, we may
never know exactly what nature does to the brain.
Something mysterious will
always remain, and
maybe that' s as it should be.
32. What
is Kang Byoung-wook doing?
A. Getting lost in
nature.
B. Building up his strength.
C.
Trying to control a forest fire.
D. Helping
firefighters under stress.
33. What does
Lisa Nisbet think of being outdoors?
A. It is
overlooked by people.
B. It has nothing to do
with happiness.
C. South Koreans show great
interest in it.
D. We need more evidence for
its benefits.
34. What benefit of nature
did Stephen Kaplan find?
A. It affects
people's feelings.
B. It lowers the risks of
diseases.
C. It helps improve mental
performance.
D. It does more good than
physical exercise.
35. What would be the
best title for the text?
A. Your life in
forests
B. Your brain on nature
C. The
future of forest healing
D. The benefits of a
stress-free life

What I learned watching dentist at work
I
would like to be a dentist in the future. 36
The patient, tender dentist comforted me, a
7-year-old girl at the time, and persuaded me
to stop crying and to accept my treatment.
37 Recently, our teacher gave us the homework of
experiencing a kind of job on the
weekend. I
chose without hesitation to live a day as a
dentist at my friend’s older brother’s
workplace.
I got to Dr Tan’s clinic at
7:45 am, 15 minutes before office hours began on
Saturday. Dr Tan, who
has been a dentist for
five years, sat in his consulting room with a mask
on his face and waited for
his patients. I
didn’t really understand his diagnoses or
treatments, but I could see that Dr Tan
was a
responsible doctor. He explained conditions and
therapies (治疗方案) to patients at length
to
remove their doubts. He paused operations to let
patients rest if the treatment was taking too
much time. 38 Dr Tan worked for almost the
whole morning without a break. He only made
a
phone call to his wife to remind her to have an
antenatal (产前) examination. Yes, he will be a
father in five months, but he still cannot
keep his wife company at the weekend. 39 They
try to ease others’ pain anytime and anywhere,
despite the cost to their own time and life.
As the last patient said goodbye to Dr Tan in
the afternoon, my visit came to an end. I now feel
that I understand more about doctors. 40
A. My dream has finally come true.
B. They
are the heroes I admire most.
C. Doctors are
ordinary people, yet they are also angels.
D.
It helps me to reduce stress, find friends and
learn new skills.
E. I thought it was a dream
that was almost impossible to fulfill
F.
That’s all because of a dentist I came across
during my childhood.
G. He also gave a
doctor’s advice to his patients carefully before
they went out the door.

My dream job
Good morning, everyone, I feel
honored to deliver a speech here sharing my dream
with you. I
hope to be a teacher in the
future. The main reason is that I get a lot of
positive energy from my
English teacher, who
promotes lifelong learning attitude. As a teacher
I’ll be motivated to keep
updating what I have
learned through lifelong learning so as to keep
pace with young students,
because they are
always energetic and have new ideas. Besides,
education plays an increasing
important role
in the development of society. Therefore, more
qualified teachers are in great
demand. What’s
more, I’m out-going and enjoy communicating with
others, which is definitely
helpful in the
teaching career.
To reach my dream, I will
work hard to enter a good normal university to
equip myself with
relevant knowledge such as
psychology, education theory and teaching skills.
I believe I will make
a good teacher through
efforts.
Thank you for listening.
