《好用的英语教学游戏》心得
Afterthought on the Book
Useful English Teaching Games
In May, I
read a book named Useful English Teaching Games,
from
which I gained a lot in connection with
the teaching games in primary
English subject.
This book principally introduces various, abundant
and
useful English games. The games can make
students learn English happily
and help them
grasp the knowledge deeper, enhancing the teaching
effect.
Here I keep track of the following
impressive English games I think the best.
First and foremost, Balloon Game. This game is
like the Chinese drum
game. As the drum tums,
the gamers will pass the flower to the person next
to him or her. To use this game in English
classes, teachers can assign a task
for the
whole class, students practice certain sentence
patterns. One asks
another, the other answers
and asks the next one, the next one answers and
asks... For example, A: What’s your favourite
food? B: My favourite food is
cabbage. What’s
your favourite food? C: My favourite food is
cabbage.
What’s your favourite food? ... In
this way, teacher can better see whether
most
students grasp the sentence patterns. The students
can also better
remember the sentence patterns
through speaking. It’s a win-win result.
Secondly, Bomb Game. It is a good suitable
game to review the words
and vocabulary in
English. Teachers prepare a set of flashcards and
some
flashcards sticked with a bomb. The
teacher holds the flashcards one by one
for
students to read aloud. If the students see a
flashcard with a bomb on it,
they should not
read it, rather, they should keep silent and hide
their heads as
soon as they see the card on
the desk. Whoever says the word gets killed and
can no longer join the game. Others continue
the game until there exists the
only
survivor. This is a interesting game, students can
consolidate their
knowledge and get happiness
from it.
Thirdly, Angry Eating. It is similar
to the saying “a close rapport”.
When we learn
such expression adjectives or action words in
English, we
can use such a game. This game
demands the teacher to first a word card, a
student to show different facial expressions
or body language according to
the meaning of
the card, the other students guess the
corresponding English
word. There are such
kinds of words like angry, afraid, happy,
surprised,
sleepy, eating, drinking, dancing
cleaning, jumping, running, swimming and
so
on. This is also a kind of TPR teaching methods.
The actions can better
help students learn the
English words.
Furthermore, Blind Robot.
Blindfold one of the students, the teacher
give orders, the students must act pursuant to
the orders. To take an example,
turn left,
turn right, go straight, turn around and go
across, north, south, east,
west, up, down and
so on. If the student make mistakes, he or she
will be
punished. Students should know the
right direction and grasp the
corresponding
English directional words to own to it.
The
last but not least, Buzz. When we learn cardinal
and ordinal
numbers, days of a week, months or
alphabet, we can adopt this game. In
Grade
three, when students learn alphabet, the teacher
can let all the students
in a class say the
alphabets one by one: a, b, c, d, e, f, g... and
set a goal:
When it is your turn to say “g and
z”, the students should not say the
alphabet,
instead, they should say “buzz”. In Grade four,
Students say the
numbers one by one: one, two,
three, four, five, six, seven, eight nine, ten.
The teacher set a rule: all of the student
should not say “six” when it is your
turn to
say it, instead, you should say “buzz”. If you say
“six”, then you are
out of the game. In Grade
five, When students learn ordinal numbers, the
teacher can set a rule: All of the
students should not read sixth, sixteenth,
sixtieth. When students learn the numbers from
one to fifty, the teacher can
set a rule: All
of the students should say decimal numbers like
“ten, twenty,
thirty, forty and fifty. When
students learn the words such as Monday,
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
and Sunday, the teacher
can replace “Monday”
with “Buzz”, because Monday is relatively easier
to
grasp. When students learn the words
January, February, March, April, May,
June,
July, August, September, October, November and
December, the
teacher can set a rule: All
students should not say March and May, which are
the easiest words in the month words. Such a
game increases the difficulties
for students
to finish. In the process, the students can grasp
the knowledge
without notice and with
happiness and passion.
As English teachers,
we get out our ways to figure out some ways to
increase the students’ interest and passion.
Let them learn. Let their attention
be
concentrated. Let them feel happy in learning
English. Let them be eager
to have English
class. Only when we grasp their interest can we
better
ensure the teaching effect and quality.
