what is bullying?

bully. what does the word make you think of? for some people,
it is the biggest guy in the neighborhood who is always trying
to beat the little boys or take their things away. for others, it’s
that a group of girls who always make fun of a timid girl at
school. actually, bullying is a behavior which is a more
powerful person or group attacks a less powerful one or group
over times and it can happen in the way of physical or verbal
and it is intended to harm or disturb the victims.

before we’re going to start more specific content about
bullying we can have a look at the story of stuart bell. stuart,
who was a gifted and 12 year boy, had been bullied by a crowd
of boys for a long time. they laughed at him in different ways
and called him nick names at school. what was worse,
sometimes they beat and threatened him when they followed
him to home from school. from then, he began to stay at home
away from school because he didn’t know the reason why the
boys teased him constantly and was afraid of what would
happen next. finally, he could not stand it any longer but to kill
himself to stop the pain that he felt from all the bullies.

according to the mayo clinic, who is an expert in the aspect of
bully, bullying is defined as a behavior which often occurs
repeatedly over times and involves “a more powerful person or
group attacking a less powerful person or group.” from this
story we can discover that the boy

had been bullied for a long time but not just once or several
times. so we can’t judge a person is bullied when he was
laughed at by his classmates once. besides, we also can’t say
bullying is if a man were bitten by a little girl for once because
she is not powerful like a group of boys in the story. therefore,
bullying this behavior is a more powerful person or group
attacks a less powerful person over times.

the second character of bullying is that bullying can happen in
physical or verbal ways. review the story, stuart was directly
bitten, threatened and called nick names by the boys, which is
telling us he was not only bullied by physical but also by
words. in fact, physical bullying means: hitting, kicking, or
pushing someone… or even just threatening to do it; stealing,
hiding or ruining someone’s things; making someone do
things he or she does not want to do. and verbal bullying
means: name-calling; teasing; insulting. so bullying can
happen in different kinds of ways like physical or verbal.

bullying is intended to harm or disturb the victims, which is
very easy for us to understand from the story. he is not the
only one person suicide result from being bullied. according to
survey, a number of children have left suicide notes telling of
their mental torture by being bullied. they all described bouts
of depression caused by continued being bullied that they felt
they could not tolerate it any longer. in their suicide notes,
these children, who have been bullied repeatedly, said that
they had

no other options t stop the pain but kill themselves. we can see
that bulling not only disturb the victims’ life but harm or hurt
them. in my word, bullying is the behavior that a more
powerful person or a band of people attacks a less powerful
one repeatedly over times in different ways and it will harm or
hurt the victims. i sincerely hope more people can realize the
meaning of bullying and prevent it from occurring in our daily
life.

say no to cyberbullying

by the end of 2013, china’s internet population had reached
618 million. with the popularization of social media, the
occurrence of cyberbullying in china is now on the rise.

what is cyberbullying? cyberbullying is the use of the internet
and related technologies to harm other people in a deliberate,
repeated and hostile manner.

why cyberbullying happens? i’ve found three causes from that
passage and i will share with you here.

first, young people. the majority of internet users are young
people, which means they are more likely to express their
opinions without giving a second thought. they lack the
experience in calming down themselves when they meet with
unjust social phenomena. then cyberbullying happens.

second, fake information. as we all know, the internet is a free
platform. cyberbullies by using fake names or ip addresses
can easily avoid punishment. to stop cyberbullies, weibo in
2011 launched a real-name registration system, but it turned
out to be a failure.

last-but-not-least point, legislation. in the united states,
cyberbullying laws have been introduced in a number of states.
a cyberbullying research website was set up in 2005. and a
movie titled cyberbullying in hope of arousing public
awareness came out in 2011. but in china, legislation against
cyberbullying is still in it’s infancy.

everything has it’s advantages as well as drawbacks.
cyberbullying is not an exception.

it helps to safeguard social justice such as exposing
government corruption. but it is also used by mistake to harm
innocent people. only when the legislation is established, i
believe, can we see the decrease of cyberbullying.

keep cyberbully away from us

with the rapid development of modern technology and wide
spread of internet, computer has become much more
accessible to ordinary people and has played an indispensable
role in daily life. it not only provides us with convenience, but
also triggers some controversial problems. just like the old
saying goes, every coin has two sides. so does the internet.
the emergence of cyberbully has caught the public’s attention
and condemnation. as are as i am concerned, it is everyone’s
responsibility to decrease the harm caused by cyberbully and
contribute to a harmonious life.

cyberbully in much more aggressive and influential compared
with other kinds of violence. due to the effect of the internet,
everyone can talk whatever they want without supervision,
which might invade others’ privacy and lead to incogitable
negative effects. what is more, it does uncountable harm to the
establishment of harmonious and civilized society.

for instance, bi fujian’s wife and children have suffered undue
personal attack because of bi fujian’s reckless remark and
inappropriate behavior, which is hard to believe. it is a
ubiquitous phenomenon in china that nerizens give comment
regardless of the consequence that it might hurt irrelevant
people, which is extremely irrational.

in addition, everyone has the right to express and share. at the
same time, it is universally acknowledge that everyone
deserves to be protected and appreciated. we must put more
consideration into our expressions and behaviors, which is of
great necessity. further, thinking from others’ point of view is
also of great significance. nobody is perfect, thus tolerance
and understanding are vital for the purpose of enhancing
relationship among people.

in conclusion, curbing the cyberbully is urgent in order to
create a harmonious atmosphere, which requires everyone’s
effort and participation. harmony belongs to every domain of
our life, whether it is real or the virtual world. therefore, we
should work together to keep cyberbully away from daily life
with determination.
