江苏省镇江市2019-2020学年高二上学期期中考试英语试题
第六部分 概要写作(满分20分)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要,不得直接摘抄原文。
More schools are charging students fees to take part in sports and other extracurricular (课
外的)activities. Faced with Sharp budget cuts, school districts across the country have started
carrying out “pay-to-play” fees to cover the cost of sports and other extracurricular activities.
About 61 percent of kids who play sports in public middle and high schools in the United States
pay fees. The average amount is $$93, according to University of Michigan poll (民意测验).
Supporters say the fees are a big help to schools lacking for money. Without the money, some
schools might be forced to get rid of extracurricular programs.
Chad Fyffe, the athletics director at Northeastern High School in Springfield, Ohio. His school
district is considering pay-to-play fees for its spring season.
activities that the kids have been accustomed to, which is the important part.
Others say that if kids have to pay to take part in activities, they'll be more committed to them.
They think students will be more likely to show up at meetings and practices, knowing that their
families have paid money for them to be there .
Critics argue that extracurricular activities are an important part of a well-rounded education.
They point out that parents already pay taxes to fund education. They shouldn't have to pay
pay-to-play fees as well. Critics also say that pay-to-play fees prevent lower-income students from
joining in. According to the same University of Michigan poll, nearly one in five parents in
lower-income households say their children take part in fewer school sports because they can't
afford the fees. Neal Moylan, the headmaster of Kennett High School in Conway, New Hampshire,
is against pay-to-play fees. He says extracurricular activities should be accessible to all students
no matter how much money their family has.

In the last few decades, scientists have reached consensus and reported that human beings are
causing changes in the Earth’s climate.
In the last 50 years, gases pumped into the Earth’s atmosphere by the factories and vehicles
have been speeding up the process of global warming and affecting our climate. Global warming
refers to an average increase in the Earth’s temperature that, in turn, leads to climate change. If we
continue to produce carbon dioxide and other gases in such huge quantities, we are expecting
severe consequences. Recent reports have warned that global warming will cause terrible climate
changes including more frequent flooding, heat, waves and droughts. Serious disease will spread
and industries that rely on nature will be badly affected. Increased temperatures will also cause the
polar ice to melt, raising sea levels and flooding many islands and can we stop these
disasters from happening?
Government all over the world should take on the responsibility, but this is no easy task.
Some
governments express reservations about whether global warming is really caused by human
activities. Many people believe that they are simply not prepared to give up the amount of money
they make from industry to save the Earth.
But why wait around for governments to take action? Experts say that each person plays their
part. They suggest making small changes like taking public transport, recycling using low-flow
shower heads, and buying light bulbs that use less energy. Even simple things like using recycled

paper or switching off the light when you leave a room can help. If we add up all these small
changes made by everyone worldwide, they won’t be such small changes. They could be the
changes that save our future.

77. 概要写作(满分20分)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇80词左右的内容概要。

As is known to all, sports stars earn large amounts of money every year. LeBron James, the
famous American basketball star, for instance, earns an income of more than 20 million dollars a
year. Some people hold the view that these stars do not deserve the high pay that they are getting.
Some even argue that sports stars do nothing to society apart from entertaining people. Their
contribution to society are much less than those made by doctors, firemen, scientists, professors,
etc. But I can never agree with that.
While sports are for entertainment, it does not mean that they are not important to people’s life.
Why do so many people go to see football matches and NBA games? It is because they enjoy
the games, and they are willing to pay to watch the performances. Because of the sports stars, our
life becomes more exciting. Some sports stars gain honor for their country, and their countrymen
are proud of them. They contribute to the spiritual well-being of their people.
What’s more, sports stars usually are at the top of level in their fields. In this world, you have
to pay if you want the best. It is the same with sports. Skills in sports are like the skills in works of
art. People will not say that Da Vinci’s painting Mona Lisa was bought for too much money. Most
stars are skilled in their own field not only because of their talents but also because of their hard
training. They have to keep performing at their peak to earn that good income.
Their influence on the national economy can not be overlooked. Take NBA in America for
example, the stars help to support not only the basketball industry, but also other rs related
industries like sportswear and sport equipment. Sports stars also make constant appearance in
advertisements. Since they are well known in the world, they attract many people’s attention,
which often leads to an immediate boom in the sales of the products that are advertised by them.
I hope one day their accomplishments will be fully recognized.
