A Strange Dream

It was a sweet spring. How pretty it was! I sat on the green meadow and glanced over my
book. The warm winds blew gently. I was very tired and lay down to rest for a little while.
Very soon I went into a state of dreaming.
A little girl sleeps in a corner of the garden. She cries and cries until her sound is broken.
Suddenly a bright figure appears before the child. A beautiful fairy stands in front of her.
She had a wand in her hand.
you
girl.
pleasant it is. Would you like to live with me in the moon?

The fairy leads the girl into a wood where there are many dwarfs. They look very busy.
Every one of them has to dig the soil. They are trying to find varieties of seeds. They
cultivate the fields with their hands. All day long though they are exhausted, yet they are
forced to work on. Otherwise they will be whipped to death. I made up my mind to save
all of those dwarfs. The sound of the bell suddenly came to my ears. I had to wake up.
Oh! this is no other than a dream. I will not let it trouble my mind.

Word Limit: no less than 120 words

参考范文

A Visit to My Uncle

I spent the winter vacation at my home town last year. I went to visit my uncle on the
following afternoon of my arrival, accompanied by my brother. The weather was bitterly
cold. Drifts of snow were frozen up by the strong north wind. We wore fur gowns and
walked closely together, but still shivered from time to time.
My uncle's house was at the other side of the hill, near the city wall. It is a shorter way to
go across the hill and down straight to his door. We went by that way to his house. When
we got on the top of the hill, his house was already within our sight. Then we quickened
our paces, excited with a sort of passion which was very dear to us from years past. We
forgot the cold already.
My uncle was still the same as I remember him. His laugh, his voice and his gesture,
were all as familiar to me as if we had not parted even one day. He was still very healthy.
He treated us very kind. He asked to prepare tiff for us in spite of our protest. We said
that we could eat only a little, since we had already taken much food, but his warm
entreaties made us empty all the dishes.
I spent the whole afternoon with our cousins in the country. I was very happy to enjoy the
fine scenery in the country, and to breathe some fresh air. When it was growing dark, we
started for home. On the way back, we talked about the pleasure of the country people
and the pain of the farmers.

The Person I Admire the Most

Mrs. Fulmer is my English instructor. She comes from the U. S. A. Like most of my
classmates, I think of her as a repeatable person. She is also very popular among us.
Mrs. Fulmer has many of the qualities that students appreciate in an instructor. First, she
is cordial and patient. Whenever dealing with new teaching material, she tried hard to get
every detail to all students. In addition, she understands our difficulties and does her best
to help us get over them. Second, she has an expressive look and an impressive tone. So
she always manages to make her lectures interesting and exciting. Finally, Mrs. Fulmer is
a very capable organizer. All of us appreciate the schedules of assignments she gives us
at the beginning of a term. They allow us to plan our time reasonably and efficiently.

Yesterday was Jim's birthday. He got a lot of presents from his friends and family. All the

and narrow; it had an umbrella in it. Jim's sister gave him a big, round package. He
thought it was a ball, but it was not. When he removed the yellow paper that covered it,
he saw that it was a globe of the world.
After that his brother gave Jim another gift. It was a big box wrapped in green paper. Jim
opened it and found another box covered with red paper. He removed the paper and saw a
third box; this one was blue in colour. Everyone laughed as Jim opened the boxes. There
were six of them! In the last one he found a small white envelope. There was a piece of
paper in the envelope which said:
You will see three small boxes: a black one, a brown one and a gray one. Your birthday
presents are in them.
Jim went in the bedroom and really found the boxes. He was very happy, but it was just
three cakes for his birthday.

champagne, beer and bags of cakes, bacon and cooked eggs. We rode along the winding
paths in the fields, across the meadows and down the roads. The willows were fresh and
green. The swallows were flying to and fro, up and down in the sky. The birds, like
musicians, sang their melodious songs in the trees, and butterflies, like colorful dancers,
were fluttering here and there. We breathed the fresh air deeply and laughed heartily.
At 10 a.m. we arrived at the foot of the Shushan Hill. We left our bikes with a bike-
repairing shop and began to climb up the Hill. Near the top, under a big tree with
luxuriant foliage we had our picnic. We drank and ate, drank and ate. After the picnic we
stood in the breeze with our hands on our waists, enjoying the fine landscape. Then we

Families of the Past, Present and Future

Since the beginning of the century great changes have been made in families. It is
because of the development of industry that families have become much smaller than
they were.
In the past, when more people lived in the countryside, the typical family had many
children. In a family, parents and their children lived with grandparents. Often, too,
uncles and aunts lived nearby. Women traditionally stayed at home, with their husbands
working in the fields.
But since industry became more important than agriculture families have become smaller.
Moreover, industry requires workers who are ready and able to move off the land and to
move again wherever necessary, and more and more women began to earn money by
working outside. So smaller families can be moved from place to place.
In the future, because of industrialization, a typical family will be required to move even
more often than now, so families will be even smaller. The typical family may remain
childless and consist only of man and a woman. A smaller number of families may raise
children as their chief occupation, leaving the childless families free to move from job to
job.

The Lunar New Year

The Lunar New Year is a great occasion to the Chinese people. It lasts about the first four
days of the year, during which people do not work except for the workers on duty.
Students do not go to school, and shops are closed. Several days before the new year,
people begin to prepare. Farmers kill pigs, sheep, cocks and hens. City dwellers buy meat,
fish and vegetables. Houses are cleaned, couplets are pasted on the doors. Colourful
lanterns are hung at the gates.
On the eve of the new year, each family has its members gathered together and eats a
family reunion dinner. After the meal they watch TV until the clock strikes twelve. Then
every family sets off long strings of small firecrackers and other fireworks to welcome
the new year.
On the first day of the new year, almost everyone is dressed in his or her best. When
people meet on the way, they say to each other
pay new year calls and give presents to each other. Children indulge themselves in games.

12. Title: Why I Learn
Time Limit: 40 minutes
Word Limit: no less than 120 words

参考范文

Why I Learn

Why do I learn? My friends asked me this question when I declined to be employed as a
department director in a company with the salary of 500 yuan a month.
Certainly, I don't learn because learning can bring me money and power. On the contrary,
some books cost the sum I cannot afford. Nor do I learn because I want to get an
academic degree or a diploma. In these years an academic degree or a diploma alone can't
guarantee an applicant job.
Why on earth do I learn? I learn because I want to explore the secret of nature and the
society. I know there are uncountable questions to which the answers are beyond me. But
this doesn't frustrate my efforts to understand them within my limits as a human being. I
learn because I am a member of Chinese people who are most active and vital force in
society. We think it our duty to learn. In transforming China into an advanced
industrialized country, we are confronted with arduous tasks and our knowledge is from
adequate. So we must seek knowledge.
In my opinion, knowledge is very important. It enables us to get rid of ignorance and find
out the ways of overcoming our difficulties. It is universally accepted that knowledge is
power. This power is greater than a director's, remolding our subjective world while
changing the objective world. Knowledge is wealth, too. This wealth is precious for it
can't be exhausted or stolen. Now that I have the chance to learn at college, why not?

13. Title: Four Seasons

Four Seasons

There are four seasons in a year. They are spring, summer, autumn and winter. Every
season has three months and each month has about thirty days.
The first season is spring. In spring time we have warm weather and sunny days. There
are many beautiful flowers in the gardens and in the fields. The birds begin to sing their
songs. Everything comes to life again.
The second season we call summer. In summer the weather is very hot and it rains a lot.
All trees are beautiful with their green leaves. The sky is very clear and blue, and the
sunshine is much stronger than that in other seasons, so many people go to the seaside or
the mountains to avoid the heat.
Autumn is the third season of the year. In autumn the weather becomes cooler day by day.
It is the beet season we have. So many people like it very much, especially the farmers.
They are very busy with their harvest.
The last season is winter. It comes with frost and snow. The weather grows colder and
colder, and much snow falls. But winter is not very long with us, for spring comes again
soon.
Talking of the four seasons, a little poem should be memorized:
Spring is gay with flower and shone,
Summer is hot and the days are long,
Autumn is rich with fruit and grain,
Winter brings snow and the New Year again.

The Chinese Moon Festival

The fifteenth of August, according to the Chinese calendar, is a great festival for the
Chinese. It is called the Chinese Moon Festival.
It has an interesting history. Long ago in one of the dynasties of China there was a king
who was very cruel to the people and did not manage the country well. They were so
angry that some brave people suggested killing the king. So they wrote notes telling
about the meeting place and time and put them into cakes. On the 15th of August every
person was told to buy the cakes. When they ate them, they discovered the notes. So they
gathered together to make a sudden attack on the king. From then on the Chinese people
celebrate on August 15 and eat moon cake in memory of that important event.
When the Chinese Moon Festival is near, the shop windows are decorated beautifully
with pictures of ancient Chinese ladies. many moon cakes are displayed for people to buy.
