2 Generalization of Hazard

Way of Invasion：Eye contact, skin contact; inhalation; ingestion.
Health Hazard
Eye contact：The volatile generated during usage is pungent to the eye. Once contacted with
this product at the high consistency over long-time and frequently, it may cause conjunctival
congestion.
Skin contact：It can be absorbed by skin, and it is pungent to skin after long-time contacts.
Usually it will cause dry skin, skin chap and dermatitis.
Inhalation：This product has the special odour of arene, it will cause headache, nausea and
emesis after inhaling it for long-time. It may cause neurasthenic syndrome and females may
have menoxenia. Inhaling high concentrated steam will anesthetize central nervous system,
and may cause throat congestion, dizziness, headache, nausea, chest congestion, weakness of
limbs and clouding of consciousness. In severe cases, it may cause dysphoria, convulsion or
coma. Some may have hysteria.
Ingestion：If ingested it accidently, it will have intense stimulation to the esophagus and
stomach, and it will cause emesis and may cause hemorrhagic pneumonia as well.
Blast Hazard: This product can be lighted by external heat source and fire source. It will
blaze after lighting. Heat source, chemical reaction, severe rubbing, collision and static
electricity all may cause blazing. Xylene steam mix with air can generate explosive mixture,
explosion limit is around 1%~7 %( volume).

4 First Aid Measure
Eye Contact：Lift the eyelid and rinse the eyes with plenty of water or saline, and go to
hospital for treatment.
Skin Contact：Take off the polluted cloths, and rinse skin thoroughly with suds and water.
Inhalation：Move to the place filled in with fresh air and keep the airways open. Perform
oxygen therapy if there is dyspnea. Perform artificial respiration if the breath stopped
and go to hospital for treatment.
Ingestion：Drink plentiful clear water to vomit and go to hospital for treatment.
First Aid Measure：1．Move to the place filled in with fresh air and take in oxygen if
necessary. Take off the polluted cloths and clear the skin.
2 ．Use glucuronic acid inner lipid as antidote. (see acute benzene poisoning)
3 ．Symptomatic treatment：Take vitamin B family, and prevent brain edema,
etc.
5 Fire Protection
Hazard Property：Inflammable, its steam mix with air can generate explosive mixture. It
may explore if there is open fire or heat source. It has strong reaction with oxidizing agent.
Flow velocity is very high, it is easy to generate and accumulate static electricity. Its steam is
heavier than air, so that it can diffuse quite far in lower position, and it will blaze when meet
with open fire.
Extinguishing method: Use water mist cooling container, move the container away to empty
place if possible. Extinguishant: foam, carbon dioxide, dry powder, sand. Since xylene can
float on the sea, it is banned to put out the fire with water.
Harmful combustion products：Pungent and harmful gas including chloride, carbonic oxide
and aromatic derivatives.
Fire extinguishing measures and precautions：Firefighter must wear suitable protective
equipment and proper self-contained breathing apparatus which can cover the whole face.
6 Emergency Treatment of Leaking
The emergency response personal protection: Wear proper self-contained breathing
apparatus and fire protective clothing.
Eliminating Method：Cut off leakage source if possible, prevent it entering the sewer, flood
discharge trench, etc. Small amount leakage: Use activated carbon or other inert material to
absorb it. Or use latex made of incombustible dispersant to brush it, put it in the waste water
system after dilute it. A large number of leaks: to build a causeway or trenching asylum;
cover with bubble, inhibiting evaporation. Explosion-proof pump transferred to lorry or
special collector, recycling or shipped to handle waste disposal sites.
Environmental Protection Measures： Collect the polluted soil quickly and move to safety
area. Strengthen ventilated of the polluted area, and evaporate the residual, get rid of the
steam. Damming quickly, cut off the flow of polluted water and use the fencing to limit the
spread of xylene.

7 Handling and Storage
Precautions to be taken in handling
Read products label before usage. Avoid unnecessary contact. Avoid open fire, rolling
container/tube should be earthed to keep good ventilation. If the packing is opened, finish the
products as early as possible. When not using it, keep the container sealed. Avoid inhaling the
smoke or contacting the products, especially for who are allergic, patient, pregnant women
and juvenile. After operation, wash hands before eating, drinking and smoking.
Precautions to be taken in storing：
Store in cool, ventilate, no direct sunshine warehouse. Keep away from heat, fire source. It
should be stored away from oxidizing agent, acid, alkaline and fodder, do not mix them up.
When not using it, keep the container sealed. Check all the containers regularly, make sure
labels are clear and containers are not damaged; no leakage. When storing big amount, makes
sure there is corresponding amount fire equipment and ventilation facilities.
