过去进行时（Past Progressive Tense）

I. The Analysis of Teaching Material
过 去进行时是人教版新目标八年级上册第五单元的重点语法，同时也是初中
阶段学生学习到的第四种时态。 主要是表达过去在某一具体时间或者一段时间正
在发生的活动。对于过去进行时的学习，一方面可以让学 生复习现在进行时的应
用；另一方面让学生来对比这两种时态的区别，从而更好地掌握住过去进行时。< br>而第五单元中，又引出了when和while引导的时间状语从句在过去进行时中的
应用！从而 使得学生必须能够正确应用它们。
II. The Analysis of Students < br>八年级的学生对于现在进行时和一般过去时的学习已经有相当长的一段时
间了，所以会有遗忘的现 象。而现在学习了过去进行时，将是这两种时态的糅合。
对于新语法知识的学习，必须让学生吃透它的定 义，了解其应用范围。所以，教
学过程中要已基础为主，伴随大量练习让学生操练，从而达到巩固新知的 目的。
一边让学生来复习现在进行时和一般过去时，巩固旧识；一边也可以让学生接触
新的知识 ，提高英语学习水平。
III. Teaching Aims
1. Review the Present Progressive Tense.
2. Be able to master Past Progressive Tense to describe what was happening in the
past.
3. Be able to use when and while adverbials correctly.

1. Learn the definition of Past Progressive Tense.

VII. Teaching Procedures
Step 1. Greetings and Revision.
Ask two students to answer some questions on Present Progressive Tense, like
the definition, the rules of verb changing and so on. Then according to their answers,
make proper comments.
Step 2. Presentation
Show the PPT to the students and make them learn about the definition of Past
Progressive Tense. Meanwhile, ask them to pay enough attention to the time
adverbials. Then, give them enough time to watch the structures to know its different
sentence patterns. Ask students to focus on the changes between different sentence
patterns. Then the teacher helps the students make a summary.
Step 3 Practice
Firstly, ask the students to look at the picture and make sure they remember what
those students are doing. Then create the situation which happened three days ago.
Secondly, make a sample for the students and then invite some students to
answer those questions in front of the class. Meanwhile, correct mistakes if any.
