英文小故事


1 生病的狮子
A lion had come to the end of his days. He lay helpless under a tree.
The animals came around him. When they saw that he was going to die, they thought to themselves,
time to pay him back.
So the boar came up and rushed at him with his tusks.
Then a bull gored him with his horns. The lion still lay helpless before them.
So the ass felt quite safe. He turned his tail to the lion and kicked up his heels into his face.


●一头年老体衰的狮子病得有气无力,奄奄一息地躺在树下。
●动物们围在他的周围,看到狮子快要死了,就来报复他。
●一头野猪冲到他身旁,狠狠地咬他。
●接着,一头野牛也用角来顶他,狮子无助地躺在那里。

2 兔子的耳朵
兔子的耳朵很长,除了听声音,这对长耳朵还有没有别的用处呢?
Jacky is not sure about the answer. So he decides to ask the rabbits themselves.

The bunny rabbit is amazing. It lays coloured eggs at Easter. Then it hides them in secret places.

3.热心的公主

4 狮和鼠(THE LION AND THE MOUSE)
Lion was awakened from sleep by a Mouse running over his face. Rising up in anger, he caught him and was about to kill
him, when the Mouse piteously entreated, saying: “If you would only spare my life, I
would be sure to repay your kindness.” The Lion laughed and let him go.
It happened shortly after this that the Lion was caught by some hunters, who bound him by strong ropes to the ground. Th
e Mouse, recognizing his roar, came up, and gnawed the rope with his teeth, and setting him free, exclaimed: “You ridi
culed the idea of my ever being able to help you, not expecting to receive from me any repayment of your favour; but n
ow you know that it is possible for even a Mouse to confer benefits on a Lion.”
一只老鼠从一只狮子面前跑过去,将它从梦中吵醒。

5 The City Mouse and the Country Mouse 城市老鼠与乡村老鼠

Once there were two mice. They were friends. One mouse lived in the country; the other mouse lived in the city.
After many years the Country mouse saw the City mouse; he said,
country.
Why do you live in a hole in the field? You should come and live in the city. You would live in a nice house made
of stone. You would have nice food to eat. You must come and see me at my house in the city.

The Country mouse went to the house of the City mouse. It was a very good house. Nice food was set ready for
them to eat. But just as they began to eat they heard a great noise. The City mouse cried,
is coming!

After some time they came out. When they came out, the Country mouse said,
like living in my hole in the field. For it is nicer to be poor and happy, than to be rich and afraid.

6 THE WOLF AND THE LAMBA 狼和小羊
A Wolf meeting with a Lamb astray from the fold, resolved not to lay violent hands on him, but to find some plea,
which should justify to the Lamb himself his right to eat him. He thus addressed him:“Sirrah, last year you grossly
insulted me.” “Indeed,” bleated the Lamb in a mournful tone of ***, “I was not then born.” Then said the Wolf, “You
feed in my pasture.”
“No, good sir,” replied the Lamb, “I have not yet tasted grass.” Again said the Wolf, “You drink of my well.” “No,”
exclaimed the Lamb, “I never yet drank water, for as yet my mother′s milk is both food and drink to me.” On which the
Wolf seized him, and ate him up, saying, “Well! I won′t remain supperless, even though you refute every one of my
imputations.”The tyrant will always find a pretext for his tyranny.


一只狼 瞧见一只迷路失群的小羊,决定暂缓下毒手,想先找一些理由,对小羊证明自己有吃它的权利。它就说:

7. The Cock and the Jewel(公鸡和宝石)
A cock, scratching in the farmyard for food for the hens, turned up a precious stone that shone and sparked in the
sun.
’t know what you are doing here. You are a very beautiful thing, and no doubt if your
owner found you he would be delighted, but you are no good to me. I would rather have one grain of delicious barley
than all the precious stones under the sun!
MORAL: Judge thins by their true value.

8 The Old Cat
An old woman had a cat. The cat was very old; she could not run quickly, and she could not bite, because she
was so old. One day the old cat saw a mouse; she jumped and caught the mouse. But she could not bite it; so
the mouse got out of her mouth and ran away, because the cat could not bite it.

Then the old woman became very angry because the cat had not killed the mouse. She began to hit the cat.
The cat said,
but I am too old. Do not be unkind to the old, but remember what good work the old did when they were young.

老猫

一位老妇有只猫,这只猫很老,它跑不快了,也咬不了东西,因为它年纪太大 了。一天,老猫发现一只老鼠,它

A man was going to the house of some rich person. As he went along the road, he saw a box of good apples at
the side of the road. He said,
give me very nice food to eat.

He went on and came to a river. The river had become very big; so he could not go over it. He waited for some
time; then he said,

He began to go home. He had eaten no food that day. He began to want food. He came to the apples, and he
was glad to take them out of the dust and eat them.

Do not throw good things away; you may be glad to have them at some other time.

There were many mice in a house. The man of the house got a cat. The cat killed many of the mice.
Then the oldest mouse said,
All the mice came. Many mice spoke, but none knew what to do. At last a young mouse stood up and said,
a bell on the cat. Then, when the cat comes near, we shall hear the bell and run away and hide. So the cat will not catch
any more mice.
Then the old mouse asked,
No mouse answered.
He waited, but still no one answered.
At last he said,

Once upon a time there was a hen who wanted to grow carrots. So she planted some carrot seeds on her garden. The
carrot seeds GREw and grew. They grew and grew and grew. One day the hen went out to check her carrots. She could
not believe her eyes. There was an enormous carrot. The hen pulled and pulled it again. But she could not pull up the
enormous carrot. So she went to the dog.
The hen and the dog pulled and pulled it together. But they still could not pull it up. So the hen went to the cat.

day told them to bring him a bundle of sticks. When they had done so, he placed the faggot into the hands of each of them
in succession, and ordered them to break it in pieces. They each tried with all their strength, and were not able to do it.
He next unclosed the faggot, and took the sticks separately, one by one, and again put them into their hands, on which
they broke them easily. He then addressed them in these words:
other, you will be as this faggot, uninjured by all the attempts of your enemies; but if you are divided among yourselves,
you will be broken as easily as these sticks.
一位父亲有几个孩子,这些 孩子时常发生口角。他丝毫没有办法来劝阻他们,只好让他们看看不合群所带来害处

12 小马过河 (How a Colt Crossed the River)
One day, a colt took a bag of wheat to the mill.
As he was running with the bag on his back, he came to a small river. The colt could not decide whether he could cross it.
Looking around, he saw a cow grazing nearby. He asked,
told him that he could and that the river was not very deep, just knee high.
The colt was crossing the river when a squirrel jumped down a tree and stopped him. The squirrel shouted,
You'll drown! One of my friends drowned just yesterday in the river.
