高中英语阅读理解(人物故事)解题技巧及经典题型及练习题(含答案)

一、高中英语阅读理解人物故事类
1.阅读理解

I'm not much of a gardener. I love having beautiful flowers-but I don't have a good track record
when it comes to making them grow.

A few months after our son left for the Middle East, my friend gifted me a box of tulip bulbs (郁
金香球茎). She explained that these bulbs were put into the ground in the fall and lay sleeping all
winter. They had all the nutrients they needed inside the bulb and would come out in the spring.
''When you see the leaves of the tiny flowers pushing toward the sun, you'll know that it's almost
time for your son to come home. They'll give you what you need most.'' She walked me through
the process of planting them. I thanked her — trying to show my gratitude for her gift.

It was a long winter — cold and dark. I endured both the weather and the loneliness and fear I
felt with my son away. Dead leaves, frost and finally a heavy snow covered the area where I'd
planted those flowers, and I soon forgot they were there.

Finally the weather began to warm. One day, as I walked down my front steps, I noticed an area
of green. I bent down to inspect the situation more clearly and saw that those tulips had begun
to grow, their tiny leaves forcing their way to the sun.

Day after day I noted the flowers' progress. And day after day, the time approached when my
son would finally be home. Now with spring just around the corner, nothing could keep either of
us from marching toward the light. Almost all of those bulbs bloomed. And with each brightly
colored flower, I marked off one day closer to getting to hold my son in my arms again.

2.阅读理解

Twenty-one years ago, my husband gave me Sam, an eight-week-old schnauzer(雪纳瑞犬),
to help ease the loss of our daughter. Sam and I developed a very special bond over the next
years.

At one point, my husband and I decided to move to a new home in New Jersey. Our neighbor,
whose cat had recently had kittens, asked if we would like one. We were a little apprehensive
about Sam's jealousy and how he would handle his turf(地盘)being invaded, but we decided
to risk it.

We picked a little, gray, playful ball of Fur. She raced around chasing imaginary mice and
squirrels and jumped from table to chair in the blink of an eye, so we named her Lightning.

At first, Sam and Lightning were very cautious with each other and kept their distance. But
slowly, Lightning started following Sam — up the stairs, down the stairs, into the kitchen. Later,
when they slept, it was always together; when they ate, it was always next to each other. When I
took either one out, the other was always waiting by the door when we returned. That was the
way it was for years.

Then, without any warning, Sam was diagnosed as having a weak heart. I had no other choice
but to have him put down. The pain was nothing compared with what I experienced when I had
to walk into our house alone. This time, there was no Sam for Lightning to greet and no way to
explain why she would never see her friend again.

In the following days, Lightning seemed heart-broken. I could see the disappointment in her eyes
whenever anyone opened the front door, or the hope whenever she heard a dog bark.

One day as I walked into our living room, I happened to see Lightning was lying next to the
sculptured replica(复制品)of Sam that we had bought a few years ago, one arm wrapped
around the statue's neck, contentedly sleeping with her best friend.

(1)What does the underlined word

A. Shocked. B. Curious. C. Worried. D. Eager.

(2)How did Sam get along with Lightning at first?

A. Lightning followed Sam everywhere it went.

B. They fought with each other fiercely.

C. They kept a certain distance from each other.

D. Sam was unfriendly to Lightning.

(3)What can we infer from the text?

A. Lightning knew Sam had died.

B. Sam means a lot to Lightning.

C. We took Lightning home to accompany Sam.

D. Sam came back to stay with Lightning again.

(4)What can be the best title of the text?

A. The Friendship between Sam and Lightning

B. The Coming of Sam and Lightning

C. The Death of Sam to Lightning

D. The Importance of Sam to Us

【答案】 (1)C

During the period from 1660 through 1800, Great Britain became the world's leader. Language
itself became submitted to rules during this period. This need to fix the English language is best
illustrated (描述) in the making of The Dictionary of the English Language by Samuel Johnson.
Guides to the English language had been in existence before Johnson began his project in 1746.
These, however, were often little more than lists of hard words. When definitions of common
words were supplied, they were often unhelpful. For example, a
dictionary as

Johnson changed all that, but the task was not an easy one. Renting a house at 17 Gough
Square, Johnson began working in the worst of conditions. Supported only by his publisher,
Johnson worked on the Dictionary with five assistants. Compared to the French Academy's
dictionary, which took forty workers fifty- five years to complete (1639-1694), Johnson's
dictionary was completed by very few people very quickly.

Balanced on a chair with only three legs, Johnson sat against a wall in a room filled with books.
Johnson would read widely from these books, mark passages illustrating the use of a particular
word, and give the books to his assistants so that they could copy the passages on slips of paper.
These slips were then stuck to eighty large notebooks under the key words that Johnson had
selected. Fixing the word by this method, Johnson could record a word,s usage and its
definition.

How many passages were used? According to Johnson's modern biographer Walter Jackson
Bate, the original total number could have been over 240,000. How many words were defined by
the lexicographer? Over 40,000 words appeared in two large books in April of 1755. Did Johnson
fully understand the huge task he was undertaking when he began? As he told his contemporary
biographer James Boswell, —
and have done it very well.

(1)What is the problem of early English dictionaries?

A. They only offer simple pictures. B. They list just a few foreign words.

C. They simply give some translations. D. They add no more than some big words.

(2)What does the underlined word

A. A publisher. B. A biographer. C. A maker of dictionaries. D. An assistant.

(3)What can we infer about Samuel Johnson from the text?

A. He standardized English. B. He cared about authority a lot.

C. He gained much financial support. D. He complained of working conditions.

(4)What is the purpose of this passage?

A. To discuss the problems of dictionaries.

B. To encourage people to work on a project.

C. To persuade people to buy the new dictionary.

D. To introduce how Johnson complete his dictionary.

【答案】 (1)D

(2)C

(3)A

(4)D

(描述) in the making of The Dictionary of the English Language by Samuel Johnson.”及最后一段
中的Samuel Johnson为词典编纂所作的努力可以推断出,Samuel Johnson使得英语标准
化。故选A。

5.阅读理解

When returning to south-western Germany, where my parents live, it is compulsory for me to
go on a hike to connect with nature and reconnect with myself. So, that is exactly what I did the
first sunny Sunday back in the beautiful Black Forest. The Huzenbacher See is a tarn in the middle
of the northern Black Forest with abundant nature surrounding it. Approaching it after a good
hour walk, I saw fascinating blue dragonflies in quantity that attracted us by the way they flew
around. They didn't stand still for a photo, as they landed on leaves for a split second. We were
also surprised at the yellow water lilies that can be seen floating on its surface between June and
July.

Sitting down at one of the benches surrounding the lake for a picnic was satisfying in two ways.
I was aware of the world's beauty that gave me the energy to continue up the mountain to reach
the most amazing view looking over the lake. The other was to really fill myself up in order to
continue the adventure adequately, full up on some snacks and refreshing water from the well.

The hike up wasn't as hard as expected and a good path was provided with dirty rocks and
slippery stones all under the shade of the tall trees. This took about an hour and a half until
reaching the beautiful view of the lake and land below. Once we had taken in the astonishing
views, the walk back down took another hour or so, making the hike a 3-to4-hour round trip,
which was well worth it!

Simply being back in the Black Forest and having such pleasant hikes is definitely good for the
soul and I highly recommend getting yourself outside, be it in the Black Forest or anywhere
outdoors. Get your intake of vitamin D and, most importantly, take in the moments that nature
has to offer.

(1)What does the underlined word Ⅰ refer to?

A. Tree. B. Tower. C. Lake D. Village.

(2)How did the author feel when sitting on the bench?

A. Tired. B. Content. C. Surprised. D. Excited.

(3)What did the author call on people to do?

A. Take vitamin D pills. B. Love and protect nature.

C. Save the soul and be yourself. D. Go outdoors and get close to nature.

(4)According to the author, being back in the Black Forest and having pleasant hikes does
good to one's ________.

A. health B. spirit C. character D. experience

【答案】 (1)C

(2)B

(3)D

(4)B

是一个湖泊,故划线部分tarn意思为湖泊,故选C。

(2)考查细节理解。根据第二段中的“Sitting down at one of the benches surrounding the
lake for a picnic was satisfying in two ways.”可知作者在湖边的长椅上坐下来野餐有两方面的
满 足感,即作者坐在长椅上时感到满足,故选B。

Back in 1988, I was working at the University of Bonn in Germany as a research fellow. I took
some time off in early May to visit a friend, who was the director of a museum in Viterbo, in
central Italy. I set out by train, which crossed the Swiss border to reach Zurich, winding through
valleys and along hillsides, and entering tunnels and making its way through the Swiss Alps. The
scenery was so beautiful.

The train then crossed the Italian border before passing through Milan and Florence, then
finally stopping in Rome. I was lucky, as my hotel was close to the railway station. The next
morning, I had a coffee at a nearby café and eagerly set out to visit as many of the famous Roman
