There is, indeed, an increasing trend of young people participating in
voluntary work for communities. Accordingly, some suggest that this
behaviour should be compulsory for all the young individuals. It seems
to me that this recommendation brings about more disadvantages than
advantages towards these volunteers and communities.

Admittedly, both neighbourhood and young participants could gain
benefits. With the help of volunteering work, the community coherence
would be promoted for people who receive help may feel satisfied and
other people may be affected by the rising awareness of helping others.
In terms of the volunteers, serving the community is advantageous for
their personal development. By participating in diverse activities and
meeting different people, they can learn how to communicate with
others, which is the necessary skill required in their career and
occupations.
