A Simple Truth About Happiness
关于快乐的简单真相
If you're waiting for it,you've missed the point
如果你正在等待快乐，那么你将错失良机
Each of us owes it to our spouses, our children, our friends to be as happy as we
can be. Anyone can be unhappy; it takes no courage or effort. True achievement lies
in struggling to be happy.
我们每个人为了让我们的配偶、孩子、朋友快乐，都要尽可能的做到快乐。
任何人都可以感到不快乐，那不需要任何勇气和努力。但是努力寻找快乐才是一
个人真正的成就。

The concept that we have to work at happiness comes as news to many people.
We assume it's a feeling that comes as a result of good things that just happen to us,
things over which we have little or no control.
致力于寻找 快乐对许多人来说是一个全新的观念。我们通常认为快乐是伴随
着某些美好的事物而来的，这些事物是我 们碰巧碰到的，而不是我们可以掌控的。

But the opposite is true: happiness is largely under our control. It is a battle to
be waged and not a feeling to be awaited.

To achieve a happier life, it's necessary to overcome some obstacles, three of
which are:

Comparison wiht Others

Most of us compare ourselves withe anyone we think is happier——a
relative,an acquaintance or ,often,someone we barely know.I once met a young man
who struck me as particularly successful and spoke of his love for his
beautiful wife and their daughters,and of his joy at being a radio talk- show host in a
city he loved.I remember thinking that he was one of those lucky few for whom
everything goes effortlessly right.
许多人都会拿自己和我们认为比我们快乐的人进行比较，我们与之对比的人
可能是一个亲戚，一个熟人， 甚至是一个不太熟悉的人。有一次我遇到了一个给
我留下他是非常成功和快乐的印象的年轻人。他谈到了 他所爱的美丽的妻子、他

Then we started talking about the blessed its existence,he told me,
because he could look up information on multiple sclerosis——the terrible disease
torturing his wife. I felt like a fool for assuming nothing unhappy existed in his life.

Almost all of us have images of how life should be. The problem, of course, is
that only rarely do people's jobs, spouses and children live up to these imagined
ideals.

Here's a personal example:No one in my family had ever divorced.I assumed that
marriage was for when my wife and I divorced after five years of marriage and
three years afterthe birth of our son,my world caved in.I was failure in my own eyes.
在这我举一个我的例子：在我的家族里从没有人离 婚。所以我一直认为婚姻
是一辈子的事。当我结婚5年、我们的儿子3岁的时候我离婚了，我的世界瞬间
坍塌，在我的眼中我是个失败者。

I later remarried but confided to my wife,Fran,that I couldn't shake the feeling
that my family life had asked me that what was wrong with our family
now(which included her daughter from a previous marriage and my son).I had to
admit that,aside from the pain of being with my son only half the time(my es-wife
and I shared coustody),our family life was wonderful.
后来我又结婚了，我向我的妻子Fran倾诉：我不能摆脱我的家庭生 活失败
的感觉。她问我：我们现在的家庭出什么问题了吗？我不得不承认我们现在的家
庭生活除 了我只能和我的儿子在一起的时间是以前的一半（我和我的前妻共同享
有监护儿子的权力）以外，其他方 面都是非常好的。


那我们为什么不庆祝一下呢？她又问我。

One effective way of damaging happiness is to look at something and fixate on
