1. Organization Saves Time and Energy
For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the
topic: On a Harmonious Dormitory Life. You should write at least 120
words following the outline given below in Chinese.

Sometimes there are so many things for you to deal with and you
feel it is beyond your capacity to fulfill all these tasks. When work has
accumulated to that point, you can take certain steps to help yourself
out.
Firstly, list all the jobs that must be done and decide which
one requires immediate attention. Secondly, divide the work into
separate parts so it will be easier for you to see whether each part is
being accomplished as desired. Working in this way you will avoid a
feeling of depression as you see concrete achievements. Finally, assign
each task a certain amount of time, so that the task will be carried out
systematically.
If you are realistic and allow yourself a little extra time for
each task, you will find that all the work will be done according to the
time as assigned and a sense of accomplishment will replace the anxiety
you felt at first.

2. Who Should Pay the University’s Tuition？

University education plays an important role in a person’s
career since it offers people more opportunities. With the rising of
university’s tuition, hot discussions have arisen about who should pay
the university’s tuition. Some say students should pay fees by
themselves as they pay for their own life. Some think that tuition fees
should be paid by their parents because that amount of money is
beyond students’ ability.
As far as I am concerned, I think parents should pay part of the
fees while university students bear the rest part. It is true that trying to
make money will affect university students’ studies. But doing
part- time jobs will help them gain working experience, learn more of
society as well as realize the importance of saving money. Most
importantly, it helps to lighten financial burdens of parents.
In a word, we have all the reasons to study hard to live up to the
society’s and our parents’ expectations on us.

According to a survey, in recent years the monthly expenditure
of a college student has been on the sharp rise. Many college students
spend money like water and have no concept of thrift in their mind.
They take it for granted that they spend money from their parents
before they enter into the society. This extravagant spending is mainly
caused by the following factors.
First of all, nowadays most of students are the only children of
their families. They are the apple in their family’s eyes and naturally
get more care and pocket money. Secondly, with the improvement of
living standard, parents can afford higher expenditure of their children.
Thirdly, some students like to pursue fashion and trends, which tends
to need more money. Finally, campus love is also a possible factor
causing extravagant spending.
From my point of view, a college student, as a pure consumer,
should learn to be thrifty. We should limit our expenditure on daily
necessities but not buy whatever we want regardless of their prices.
The habit of thrift can help us form right values and is favorable to our
future development.

Longing for a Quality-Oriented Education System
Under the present exam-oriented system, a student is supposed
to cheat. Faced with the worsening of competition, many students
cheat the system for higher scores.
If taken seriously, the problems with the present system can boil
down to three. One comes from little trust between teachers and
students. That is why I have a strong feeling of guilt whenever the
teacher approaches me in exams. Another arises from the fact that the
campus is flooded with under-the-table businesses. And worst of all,
there is no provision in the current education system for chances of
exercising our creativity. If we take part in exams, all we need to do is
to recall what the textbooks or notebooks are about.
In response to the problems above, there needs to be a code of
rules that can keep the campus free from dishonesty because the
system so easily lends itself to abuse. We long for a new system, like
the quality-oriented education, that will encourage students to tap into
their own talents without any guilt or fear of cheating.

In recent years, China has experienced an alarming increase in
teenage smoking. The statistics are quite disturbing and cause people to
ask why.
The factors for a great rise in teenage smoking are complex. Some
attribute it to the increased standard of living which enables kids to
have more pocket money, while others place the blame on cigarette
advertising and the import of cigarettes. In addition to the external
circumstances, the psychological factors should also be examined.
Most young people begin to smoke just out of curiosity: they have a
strong desire to experience the pleasure of smoking. They also have a
subconscious feeling that smoking will make them mature and tough
and sophisticated.
To help them get rid of such foolish ideas is the first step, and
then we may conduct an extensive campaign to make them aware of
the dreadful consequences of taking up the habit of smoking.

Some students say that part-time jobs affect studies to some
extent. At college, there are so many subjects to study and so much
homework to do that time is precious to them. Besides, free time
should be spent in taking a bath, writing letters or washing clothes. As
a result, there is no time available especially for students to do
part-time jobs.
Others have an opposite idea. They believe that knowledge is
acquired not only from books but also from practical experiences, one
kind of which is part-time jobs. For example, a part-time salesman’s
job can teach one knowledge of goods for sale efficiently or business
ethics in order to meet the needs of the future work.
As to me, I agree to the latter opinion in a way. Various part-time
jobs can develop our skills or capabilities such as sales, typing, tutorage
or translation. Of course, it is improper for students to overdo
part-time jobs. On the whole, part-time jobs are of benefit to students
not only financially but also in the development and formation of
character.

Wherever you are, you can see many people equipped with mobile
phones. It seems that the world becomes smaller nowadays. You could
be found wherever you are so long as you take the mobile phone with
you. And mobile phones are also becoming a new scene on campus.
Students think it is extremely convenient for them to communicate
with the outside world by using mobile phones, especially when they
are hunting for jobs, so they call it an essential investment. Education
experts analyze the entry of mobile phones into campus as an
indication of social progress. And mobile phones have been considered
advanced for its attractive functions. The youth of today send
messages, surf on the net, listen to music and even take photos by
using their mobile phones. To some extent, it reflects that college
students are more and more involved in this modern society, rather
than pedants in the “Ivory Tower”.
As a coin has two sides, the mobile phone, while providing
convenience, causes trouble too. In classrooms, the untimely ringing
interrupts lectures and destroys the atmosphere of study, so it prompts
many complaints. And the mobile phone users themselves also suffer.
Therefore, we need to think more about how to integrate mobile
phones properly into our lives.
