English names and how to choose an English name according to your Chinese name
大部分的人在第一次 上英文课的时候，就会开始考虑取一个英（外）文名字。当时我们好多同学就取
了 mary, Bob John等。那大家首先来想一下有一个英文名字的好处是什么？
1. 出国留学或者是与外国人相处时，老外可以很正确的叫出你的名字，减少大家的尴尬 2. 我们
的中文 名字通常是家里取的，我们自己没有干涉的权力啊，甚至我们当时连说话的能力都没有。只有英文
名是我 们可以自己决定的。It’s our rights!
Well , in order to chooses an English name, first let’s talk about the composition of English names.我记得在以前
的课本上曾学过这么一篇文章，大家可能对这篇文章也很熟悉，listen -- Most English people have three names:
a first name, a middle name and the family name. Their family name comes last. For example, my full name is Jim
Allan Green. Green is my family name. My parents gave me both of my other names.
People don’t use their middle names much. So“John Henry Brown”is usually called“John Brown”. People
never use Mr, Mrs or Miss before their first names. So you can say John Brown, or Mr. Brown; but you shouldn’t
say Mr John. I think this is different from Chinese names. In China, the first name is the family name, and the
last name is the given name. For example, a man called Zhou Jian puts his family name Zhou first.
从这篇文章中我们对英文名有了一个大体的了解，我们以William Jafferson Clinton为例（板书）

很多场合中间名往往略去不写，例，George Bush
许多人喜欢用昵称取代正式教名，例，Bill Clinton
教名和中间名又称个人名
现在我们来分别介绍一下英语民族的个人名、昵称和姓氏：
I. 个人名
按 照英语民族的习俗，一般在婴儿接受洗礼的时候，由牧师或父母亲朋为其取名，称为教名。以后本
人可以 在取用第二个名字，排在教名之后。英语个人名的来源大致有以下几种情况：
1. 采用圣经、希腊罗马神话、古代名人或文学名著中的人名作为教名。
2. 采用祖先的籍贯，山川河流，鸟兽鱼虫，花卉树木等的名称作为教名James
3. 教名的不同异体。
5. 用构词技术制造新的教名，如倒序，合并。
6. 将母亲的娘家姓氏作为中间名。
英语民族常用的男子名有：James, John, David, Daniel, Michael, 常见的女子名为：Jane, Mary, Eliza
beth, Ann, Sarah, Catherine.
