Many universities require each graduate student to have at last one
paper published before getting the master’s degree. It seems a good way
to evaluate the graduate students, just as those universities expect, but a
deeper and more important fact that this method also has its own fateful
defects is neglected.
On the one hand, universities require students to publish their
articles in order to get the master’s degree may bring down the academic
level. Many students can not publish papers by themselves, consequently,
some students employ ghost writer to write papers for them, plagiarize
directly, or purchase papers unlawfully, these articles not only lack social
value, but also lower the academic standard. This is contrary to the
original target of graduate education which is primary to cultivate the
graduate students as qualified person with the ability to solve problems
independently. For example, one female graduate student of Guangzhou
copies a paper was accused and expelled from the school as a
punishment. On the other hand, it is an alternative method to evaluate the
ability of a graduate student but not an unwise way to evaluate graduate
students by published paper. A good student should be all-round
development and exercise their capabilities though participate in a variety
of useful activities. Only In this way can a graduate become a socially
useful and successful person.
