This news report is concerning a volunteer activity on June 14, which was organized by our
Student Union to assist elderly people in the neighborhood. Altogether 30 volunteers
participated.

Admittedly, in the present-day society, it is acommon phenomenon for many senior citizens
to stay alone at home, when their adult children are busy with their work and study. However,
aged people need youngsters’ care, which will bring them power, inspire their passion for life and
help them enjoy their twilight. Thus, yesterday, our Student Union held this volunteer activity to
assist those lonely elderly people in the near by neighborhood, including cleaning rooms,
washing clothes, presenting songs anddances. A majority of these volunteers are freshmen and
sophomores in our university, and they are convinced that this activity is simple but
meaningful,particularly when they saw the happy smiles of the aged.

We, as youngsters, should bear in mind that nomatter how busy we are, it is of great
necessity for us to respect, care for,assist and accompany the elderly.

On June 14, our Student Union organized a visit to a Hope elementary school and 35
volunteers participated.

This activity is simple but meaningful, in which volunteers brought books and presents for

the students in the school. During this visit, they found that a host of primary school boys and
girls have a variety of difficulties or troubles in their English learning. Then, our Student Union
held various activities to help them and also told them that practice makes perfect. It was also
through practice that the volunteers helped the students accumulate their confidence and skills
for learning. In addition, the volunteers encouraged the boys and girls to try their utmost to work
hard, which will ensure them a promising and hopeful future.

A majority of participants in this visit acknowledge that they prefer communicating and
sharing with primary school students. They deem that this visit can bring schoolchildren a happy
experience, inspire their passion for study and help them improve themselves.

A group of students in our university visited a local farm near our campus on June 14. This
activity was organized by our Student Union and 25 youngsters participated.

What was the purpose of this visit? Lee, the chairman of the Student Union, told the
reporter that students in large numbers had not realized the significance of saving food on
campus. A typical example is that in canteens, it is a common phenomenon for so many students
to waste food.

After the visit, a majority of participants deemed that this activity could bring them a sense
of thrift, arouse their passion for life and help them cherish food in future. After all, their happy
life today is closely associated with the hard work of thousands of farm workers.

In addition, it is also through this visit that they know how to manage a farm in a scientific
way. They said,“We will bear in mind that science and technology is the primary productive force,
and farming is no exception.”
