Passage 1
Some people are lucky enough to be born with a good sense of direction that even if they have only visited a place once,
they will be able to find it again years later. I am one of the thoes unfortunate people who have a very poor sense of direction,
and though I may have visited a place time after time, I still manage to get lost on my way to there. So if anyone ever asks me
how to get somewhere, I always tell them that I am a stranger to the town in order to avoid confusing them, but even this can
have embarrassing results.
I was once on my way to work when I was stopped by a man who asked me if I would direct him to the Bank of China
building. Without thinking, I gave my usual reply, but I had only walked on a few steps when I realized that he had asked for
directions to my office buildin. However, at this point, I found it was to late to turn back and search him out in the crowd
behind me as I had an appointment to keep at the office with a new client and I did not want to keep him waiting.
Imagine my embarrassment when my secretary showed in the very man who had asked for directions to my office and his
surprise when he recognized me as the person he had asked!

Passage 2
Job hunting has become more and more difficult. So you should learn the kind of writing skills that will help you to
get an interview. Writing effective resume, letters of application, and interview follow-up letters can give you an edge in the job
market. Not all job seekers know the skills.
The resume gives a brief review of your work experience and education in a way that is factual and easy to read. You can
use the application letter to expand on the facts in the resume and to show your personality. The resume gives the facts and
the application letter interprets those facts. The letter can show how your past duties will help you to do the job you are
looking for.
If you do get an interview, take time to prepare well for it. It could be the most important meeting of your career. Try to
anticipate what questions will be asked and have answers ready. Present your best appearance and conducts. As a matter of
courtesy, and to strengthen your case, write a follow-up letter to thank the interviewer for the interview.
