Some people and businesses get lucky—they happen to be in the right place at the right time.
And they often succeed, at least in the short run, despite themselves. But depending on luck isn't a
good idea—as the Chinese proverb goes, “Man who waits for roast duck to fly into mouth must
wait very long time.”
The vast majority of what we call “luck” is the result of vision and purpose, hard work and
passion. As another saying goes, “The harder I work, the more luck I have.” Successful people
work hard to put themselves into a position where good fortune can find them. The harder a
manager works at developing people, the luckier he will be in having a skilled and motivated staff.
The harder a salesperson works at satisfying customers, the luckier he will be at gaining referrals.
The harder a couple works at it, the luckier they are at having a great relationship.
All that success requires is a strong vision, hard work, being passionate about goals, building
relationships, constantly seeking to improve, self-discipline and taking smart risks. Beyond that,
it's simply luck.

A Thursday article in the People's Daily, the flagship newspaper of the Communist Party of
China (CPC), criticized two TV stations for airing a reality show featuring celebrities exhibiting
their diving skills, and describing the show as “excessive”．
“There is a bottom line to entertainment, but many have turned a blind eye for the sake of
the ratings，” the commentary said.
The commentary did not specify the names of the stations.
The article made a connection between popular talent show programmes featuring singers
and the diving show, saying that singing is a more appropriate skill to promote than diving, as it is
less difficult or dangerous.
“Some celebrities attempt to maintain their popularity by participating in such shows，” it
said.
“From singing shows to diving shows—Where are China's talent shows going to go next if
people become tired of diving shows？” the article said.
“I advise these stars to jump from buildings to improve their ratings，” actor Chau-Sang
Wong was quoted by the newspaper as saying.

When I was a little girl, my mother always told me what I should do and I can
remember is that when I was in the primary school, I didn't want to go to school because I hated
the maths teacher who used to punish me for I didn't finish my homework on time. Instead of
forcing me to go to school, my mother just told me if I didn't go to school, my friends and my
teachers would not like me anymore. What's more, she told me I should not hate the maths teacher
on account of my fault and never hate anybody if I wanted to be likable. Since that time, I have
known that being likable is very important.
While I was growing up, I read a lot of books in order to be a likable person. There is a
famous writer, Dale Carnegie. He wrote a book called How to Win Friends and Influence People,
which taught me a a likable person, we should respect others and become genuinely
interested in other people. In my opinion, the most significant one is that we should be honest and
sincere. The second way is that we should be glad to give them a hand when it is needed. Finally, I
suppose that being a good listener is quite important as well. We should participate in their
suffering and encourage them in time.
In a word, only if we stand by the people even when they are in the darkest time and never
desert them can we be likable in the social life.
