August the limit was exceeded at No.4 hatch on a number
of occasions
in spite of the Duty Officer’s complaint to the Foreman.

In order to avoid any damage to the cranes we would prefer to keep the lift down to
8 tons, and if we find the S.W.L. exceeded again, we may be obliged to stop the use of
the ship’s cranes request to load with shore cranes.

Derrick damaged
I regret to inform you that at 21:00 hours last night, while the ship was discharging
the cargo at this port, bottom ring (

)of the port guy was suddenly pulled out, Thee
starboard derrick of hatch No.2 swung and collided with the shroud(

), resulting in
damage to the derrick.
It is obvious that the accident was due to the fact that the derrick was overloaded by a
sling of 5865 kgs. In double tackles.
Under such circumstances, I have to hold you solely responsible for the accident.

Dear Sir,

Collision report

While the above-named vessel was lying properly moored alongside No.5 Berth, at
about
2050
hours
on
22
nd

November,
1977,
the
S.S.‖
EVELPIS
‖
,
Greek
flag,
port
of
registry Piraeus, which was shifting from her berth, drifted and struck the portside of my
vessel, causing damage to the bulwark, stanchions, etc.
This accident was caused by careless maneuvering
on the part of the S.S,‖evelpis‖
during NW wind without tug assistance.

Such
being
the
case,
I
hold
the
S.S.
―EVELPIS‖
responsible
for
the
aforesaid
damage and other damage which may have been caused to the hull below the waterline
on account of this accident.
In view
of the above fact,
I, commander of
this vessel, hereby wish to
