Hero Byron and Byronic Hero

1. Introduction

George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron, later George Gordon Noel, 6th Baron
Byron,
FRS
(22
January
1788
–

19
April
1824),
was
an
English
poet
and
a
leading
figure in
the Romantic Movement. Amongst Byron's best-known
works
are the brief poems She Walks in Beauty, When We Two Parted, and So, we'll go
no more a roving, in addition to the narrative poems Childe Harold's Pilgrimage
and
Don
Juan.
He
is
regarded
as
one
of
the
greatest
British
poets
and
remains
widely read and influential.
Byron
was
celebrated
in
life
for
aristocratic
excesses
including
huge
debts,
numerous love affairs with both sexes, rumors of a scandalous incestuous liaison
with
his
half-sister,
and
self-imposed
exile.
He
travelled
to
fight
against
the
Ottoman
Empire
in
the
Greek
War
of
Independence,
for
which
Greeks
revere
him
as
a
national
hero.
He
died
merely
36
years
old
from
a
fever
contracted
while in Missolonghi in Greece.
Obviously,
there
is
a
strong
relationship
between
Byron
himself
and
the
characters
in
his
works.
Byron's
scandalous
history,
exotic
travels,
and
flamboyant
life made such an impression on the
world that
the term
was
coined
to
mean
romantic,
arrogant,
dark,
and
cynical.
The
Byronic
hero,
such as Childe Herold and Manfred,
presents an idealized,
but flawed character
whose
attributes
include:
great
talent;
great
passion;
a
distaste
for
society
and
social institutions; a lack of
respect for
rank and
privilege (although
possessing
both);
being
thwarted
in
love
by
social
constraint
or
death;
rebellion;
exile;
an
unsavory
secret
past;
arrogance;
overconfidence
or
lack
of
foresight;
and,
ultimately,
a
self-destructive
manner.
The
figure
of
the
Byronic
hero
pervades
much
of
his
work,
and
Byron
himself
is
considered
to
epitomize
many
of
the
characteristics of this literary figure.

He run for true love and was never constrainted by others
’
insults and abuses.
His love is sheer and violent. There is no any direct connection between his love
with gender, ancestry or anything else. In that extremely conservative age, he
ended his unfortunate marriage, pursued passionate relationships with women
and men, embarked on a well-publicized affair with a married woman and even
formed a close relationship with his half-sister. As a result, he was ostracized
from society and forced to flee England in r, he never changed his
special way of pursuing love, all over his short life. In this point, no one can not
admire him. Faced with love, most of us are timid and hypocritical.

He is a
warrior who pursues true love.

As a political figure, he yelled desperately for the oppression from which the
people without privilege suffered. He was one of the few Parliamentary
defenders of the Luddites : specifically, he was against a death penalty for
Luddite. His kindness was not restrained by classes. Justice is his only choice.
Authority is nothing in his eyes. He is a warrior who pursues

righteous.

In
his
eyes, everyone
has
the
right
of
choosing
which
religion
to
believe
in.
He
expressed opposition to the established religion because it was unfair to people of
other faiths. He is a warrior who defends
peoples’
freedom of religion.
He liked
traveling, especially
to Greece. He liked adventuring and experiencing
different kinds of lives. He was an avid supporter of liberal causes and
national
independence.
He
joined
the
cause
in
Greece,
training
troops
in
the
town
of
Missolonghi,
where
he
died
just
after
his
36th
birthday.
There
is
no
doubt
that
Byron is a great hero,
just like the Byronic
hero in
his
works. Nationality could
not
be
the
yoke
which
confine
his
chase
of
justice.
He
is
a
warrior
who
has
a
strong sense of what is right.
3. The characteristics of Byronic Hero
Byronic
hero
typically exhibits several of the following traits: arrogant ,cunning
and
able
to
adapt
,cynical,
disrespectful
of
rank
and
privilege
,emotionally
conflicted,
bipolar,
or
moody
,having
a
distaste
for
social
institutions
and
norms
,having
a
troubled
past
or
suffering
from
an
unnamed
crime,
intelligent
and
perceptive
jaded,
world-weary
,mysterious,
magnetic
and
charismatic,
seductive and sexually attractive ,self-critical and introspective, self- destructive,
socially
and
sexually
dominant,
sophisticated
and
educated
,struggling
with
integrity Treated as an exile, outcast, or outlaw .
After
Childe
Harold's
Pilgrimage,
the
Byronic
hero
made
an
appearance
in
many of Byron's other
works, including
his series of poems on Oriental themes:
The Giaour (1813), The Corsair(1814) and Lara (1814); and his closest play
