阅读下列短文,从每 题所给的四个选项(
A

B

C

)中 ,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡
上将该项涂黑。

A
It

s
almost
sunrise
near
the
summit
of
Japan

s
Mount
Fuji.
Exhausted
climbers,
many of whom have hiked the 3,776 meters through the night to reach this point, stop
to watch as the sun begins its
ascent
. For everyone, this is an important moment:
they have witnessed the sunrise on Mount Fuji.
Located in the centre of Japan, Mount Fuji,
is
a highly respected spot.
Japan

s
native
religion,
Shintoism,
considers
Fuji
a
holy(
神圣的
)
place.
Other
people
believe
the mountain and its waters have the power to make a sick person well. For many,
climbing
Fuji
is
also
a
rite
of
passage(
成人仪式
).
Some
do
it
as
a
part
of
a
religious
journey; for others, it is a test of strength. Anyway, reaching the top in order to
stand on Fuji

s summit at sunrise is a must for many Japanese

and every July and
August, almost 400,000 people attempt to do so.
Fuji
is
more
than
a
holy
spot
and
tourist
attraction,
however.
It
is
also
an
active
volcano(
火山
) around which four million people have settled, and sits just 112
kilometers from the crowded streets of Tokyo. The last time Fuji exploded, in 1707,
it sent out a cloud of ash that covered the capital city and darkened the sky for
weeks.
Today, new data have some volcanologists concerned that Fuji may soon explode
again.
According
to
Motoo
Ukawa
and
his
associates
at
the
National
Research
Institute
for
Earth
and
Science
and
Disaster
Prevention,
there
has
been
an
increase
in
activity
under
Fuji
recently,
which
may
be
caused
by
low-frequency
earthquakes.
Understanding
what
causes
these
quakes
may
help
scientists
predict
when
Fuji,
the
biggest
of
Japan

s
86
active
volcanoes,
will
come
back
to
life.
In
the
meantime,
locals
living
near
Fuji
hold special festivals each year to offer gifts to the goddess of the volcano

as
they have for generations

so that she will not explode and destroy the land and its
people below.
21. The underlined word

ascent

in paragraph 1 means ___________.
A. moving up
C. coming out

B. dropping

D. disappearing
22. What do we know about Mount Fuji ?
A. It has exploded quite recently.
B. Locals have traditions about it.
C. It is the largest volcano in the world.

D. About 40,000 people climb it every year.
23. According to the text, scientists are worried that __________.
A. predicting earthquakes is difficult
B. the city near Mount Fuji is too crowded

C. earthquakes in Japan are on the increase
D. Mount Fuji may explode in the near future
B
A dear friend of mine was dying of cancer. Shortly before she died she shared
with me that she was very sad that she would never get to the beach again. She grew
up near the ocean and it was a special place for her. The cancer had made her too
weak
to
travel
the
4
to
5
hours
from
her
home
to
the
ocean.
I
shared
this
with
several
of her friends and we decided we had to do something about it.
On
a
Saturday
afternoon
in
June,
while
her
family
kept
her
away
from
the
windows,
we drove and carried three tons of white beach sand in her driveway. After the sand
was
spread
around,
out
came
beach
balls,
boards,
beach
chairs,
a
variety
of
decorations
and
a
fire
pit
for
the
bonfire(
篝火
)
on
the
beach
at
night.
There
were
two
CDs
playing.
One was the sounds of waves breaking on the beach and the other changed between The
Beach Boys and Jimmy Buffett.
When all were in place, her daughter brought her out to her private beach where
she was greeted by a few dozen friends dressed in flowered shirts. She came out of
the house with a beach bag. A tear or two dropped that day, but it was mostly filled
with laughs and most of all love. The day ended with a fire on her beach and so much
happiness for everyone.
She died two weeks later but made it out to her beach four or five more times
before
she
left
us.
I
guess
the
message
of
this
story
is
that
when
someone
is
in
need,
we
need
to
try
our
best
to
think
of
ways
to
help.
And
the
next
time
when
someone
tries
to sell you some oceanfront land in Kansas, you might just want to check it out.
24. The author wrote this passage mainly to ________.
A. share the special last visit to the beach
B. show off his and his friends

great help
C. tell the story of his friend with cancer
D. remember the good old days with friends
25. The friend was kept away from the windows because ________.

A. her family didn

t want her to stay there so long
B. the special plan must be carried out secretly
C. she doesn

t like noises being made outside
D. her family decided to take her to the sea
26. It can be inferred that seeing the special beach, the friend with cancer was
_________.
A. moved to tears

C. frightened a lot

C
Are you the type of person who always says

yes

?
I’
ve come to learn that it
is very important to learn to say

no

. It

s okay. People are still going to like
you. They may even respect you more because they know you are honest.
I’
m
not
saying
to
say

no

to
someone
who
really
needs
your
help.
I’
m
talking
about turning down the meeting that you really do not want to be a guest at.
Think
for
a
moment
how
you
feel
when
you
say

yes

to
something
that
you
really
don

t
want
to
do.
If
you

re
like
I
once
was,
you
can

t
sleep
at
night
and
you
think
about it too much. It weighs on your mind. You try to find ways out. No matter what
you

re saying to yourself, if you really wanted to go, you wouldn

t have all of
these thoughts.
So,
why
not
just
say

no

from
the
beginning?
Maybe
you
feel
like
if
you
don

t
show up at the meeting (by the way, it is not one you must attend), your boss isn

t
going to like you or your co-workers won

t respect you. Maybe you feel as if your
mom, dad or sisters won

t love you as much if you don

t do everything they ask.
If these people are your true friends, family members, or a good boss, they will
like or love you the same no matter what. People treat you the way you teach them
to,
and
if
you

re
someone who always
says

yes

, then
that

s what they

re
expecting.
You need to do what is right for you. Of course we do have real responsibilities
in life to fulfill, but we do not have to do everything others want us to do.

means you are dishonest.

no

means you are brave.

Learning English online is an effective way to improve your English. But with
any type of learning you need to be prepared. This passage will give you tips on how
to get the most out of your online lessons.
36

This is an obvious point but also the most important one. A computer, a good
Internet connection and a handset are what you will need to take classes online. A
web camera is also pretty important. Make sure that your computer is turned on, that
everything is in place and that you have tested the connection. Doing that before
the class means that you will be ready when the lesson starts.
Take the classes somewhere quiet.
37 Trying to listen and take part in English classes is very difficult

find

room
and
make
sure

no

you while you are taking your lesson.
38
When
grammar
or
anything else is being taught,
make sure
that you understand
it.
You
won

t
need
to
practice
it
at
this
time;
just
make
sure
that
everything
is
clear.
If you don

t understand what is being taught, ask your teacher to explain it again.
Your teacher will be more than happy to deal with what puzzles you.
Practice speaking English.
Every class is an opportunity to practice your English speaking with a native
and
qualified
teacher.
Try
to
allow
the
conversation
to
flow
by
listening
and
talking
in a natural way. 39 The teacher should note the mistake and correct them at
a later time.
Relax.
Come to class feeling relaxed and excited. 40 Come into the class
excited about learning English. You will get more out of the class this way.
A. Review after the lesson.
B. Make sure everything is ready.
C. Understand what is being taught.
D. Get away from everything that may be going on in your home.
E. Language learning should be enjoyable especially in online classes.
F. You will meet many problems when you are learning English online.
G.
This
is
your
chance
to
speak
English
without
worrying
about
too
many
mistakes.
