1.
Which of the following is the correct order of ......?
word can be used to complete the following process of changes ..?
of the following shows the path of the signals described in Paragraph

.......?
of the following is the correct order to describe Fitzgerald

s life according to the passage?

send
commands to machines.

The

commands the motorized wheelchair. The wheelchair also has two cameras that identify objects in
its path. They help the computer react to commands from the brain

3. Which of the following shows the path of the signals described in Paragraph 5?
A. scalp

This head cover picks up the signals from the scalp(
头皮
)
and sends them to a computer. The computer interprets the signals and commands the motorized
wheelchair.

a special cap
C.

[1]Medical drugs sometimes cause more damage than they cure. One solution to this problem
is to put the drugs inside a capsule, protecting them from the body

and the body from them

until they can be released at just the right spot. There are lots of ways to trigger(
引发
) this release,
including changing temperature, acidity, and so on. But triggers can come with their own risks

burns, for example. Now, researchers in California have designed what could be a harmless trigger
to date: shining near- infrared light (NIR,
) on the drug in the capsule.
[2]......
[3].....
[4]So Almutairi and her colleagues reported creating a new material for capsules that's even
better. This one consists of a long chain of compounds called cresol groups linked in a polymer.
Cresol contains reactive(
) components that make it highly unstable in its polymeric form,
a feature Almutairi and her colleagues use to their advantage. After polymerizing the cresols, they
cap each reactive component with a light-absorbing compound called Bhc. When the Bhcs absorb
NIR
light,
the
reactive
groups
are
exposed
and
break
the
long
polymer
into
two
short
chains.
Shining additional light continues this breakdown, potentially releasing any drugs in the capsule.
What's
more,
Almutairi
says,
Bhc
is
10
times
better
at
absorbing
NIR
than
is
ONB
and
is
not
poisonous to cells.

In the late 1860s, a creative engineer named John Roebling was inspired by an idea to build a
bridge connecting New York with the Long Island. However, bridge building experts throughout
the world thought that this was impossible.
Roebling could not ignore the vision of this bridge. He thought about it all the time and he
knew deep in his heart that it could be done. He just had to share the dream with someone else.
After
much
discussion
and
persuasion
he
managed
to
convince
his
son
Washington,
an
up
and
coming engineer, that the bridge in fact could be built.
The
father
and
son
developed
concepts
of
how
it
could
be
accomplished
and
how
the
obstacles
could
be
overcome.
With
great
excitement
and
inspiration,
and
the
determination
of
meeting wild challenges, they hired their crew and began to build their dream bridge.
The project started well, but when it was only a few months underway a tragic accident on
the site took the life of John

Roebling. Washington was injured and left with a certain amount of
brain damage, which resulted in him not being able to walk or talk or even move.

We told them so.

Crazy men with crazy dreams.

It

s foolish to chase wild visions.

Everyone had a negative comment and felt that the project should be abandoned. In spite of
his
disability
Washington
was
never
discouraged
and
still
had
burning
desire
to
complete
the
bridge and his mind was still as sharp as ever.
He
tried
to
inspire
and
pass
on
his
enthusiasm
to
some
of
his
friends,

they
