The
cynics
say
the
college
students
are
the
pampered
lost
generation,
which
would

cringe
at
the
slightest
discomfort.
But
the
cynics
are
wrong.
The
college
students
I
see
a
re
eagerly
learning
about
how
to
live
independently.
We
help
each
other
clean
the
dormit
ory,
go
shopping
and
bargain
together,
and
take
part
time
jobs
to
supplement
our
pocket
money.



The
cynics
say
we
care
for
nothing
other
than
grades;
and
we
neglect
the
need
fo
r
character
cultivation.
But
again,

cynics

low
students

children

suffer

cancer.

students,

adolescents

turning
point
in
our
lives.
We
all
face
a
fundamental
choice:
cynicism
or
faith,
each
will
profoundly
impact
our
futu
re,
or
even
the
future
of
our
country.
I
believe
in
all
my
fellow
classmates.
Though
we
a
re
still
inexperienced
and
even
a
little
bit
childish.
I
believe
that
we
have
the
courage
an
d
faith
to
meet
any
challenge
and
take
on
our
responsibilities.
We

preparing
to
assum

new

argue
that
these
meetings
will
leave
us

between

west,

I
believe
that

best
future
lies

creative
combination
of
both
worlds.

can
make
western
ideas,
customs

to

love
Beijing
and
Hennan
opera
because
it
always
reminds

But

am

fan

pop
music,

English
songs.

走出冷漠




谁是中国上个月最有名的人物
?
这当然要数马加爵了
——
这个杀害了四名同学的大
学生。

Beggars
are
one
of
the
most
familiar
groups
in
every
city.
They
accompany
us
fr
om
our
childhood
until
now,
and
I've
found
both
the
beggars
and
I
change
in
this
journe
y.



Years
ago
as
a
little
girl,
when
I
came
across
some
old
and
disabled
beggars
on
the
road,
I'd
donate
some
pocket
money
to
them,
happily
thinking
I
was
helping.



s
I
have
grown
older,
I've
found
the
number
of
beggars
has
grown
larger
and
the
y
are
more
diverse.
They
appear
in
every
corner
of
the
city,
on
the
overbridge,
on
the
str
eet,
near
restaurants,
and
even
at
your
door.
In
contrast
with
the
old
days,
it
seems
like
t

he
situation
with
beggars
today
is
more
complicated,
which
has
made
me
hesitate
before
deciding
whether
to
help
them
or
not.



It's
hard
for
me
to
give
them
money
considering
some
who
appear
beggars
in
day

time
but
dress
up
and
go
to
fancy
restaurants
at
night;
and
some
who
are
controlled
by
some
illegal
organization
and
the
money
they
get
all
goes
to
the
organization.
If
I
help
th
em,
I'd
be
making
the
problem
worse,
I'd
be
doing
harm
to
the
society,
indirectly.
But
it'
s
also
hard
not
to
give
them
money,
considering
there're
real
beggars
who
really
need
hel
p.
If
I
don't
help
them,
who
will?
And
where
is
my
sympathy?



What
hurts
me
the
most
is
not
how
hard
it
is
to
distinguish
the
real
help-seekers
from
the
many
false
ones,
but
that
some
children
are
forced
by
adults,
sometimes
even
th
eir
parents,
to
beg.
They
grow
up
despised
by
the
world,
out
of
mainstream
society.
Whe
n
I
see
their
eyes
filled
with
desperation
and
impudence
instead
of
purity
and
innocence,
my
heart
sinks.
We
don't
know
how
they
will
face
the
world
when
they
grow
up,
how
t
his
will
shape
their
characters,
and
what
they
may
do
to
the
society,
to
perpetuate
this
cy
cle
of
violence.



Months
ago
the
Fu
Jian
government
has
promulgated
a
new
policy
to
deal
with

kinds
of
beggars.
An
internet
survey
shows
that
over
80%
of
voters
reacted
positively
to
ward
the
policy.
We
know
that
one
single
policy
cannot
solve
a
problem
as
complex
as
t
his
one,
but
we
do
look
forward
to
some
improvement.
I
wish
all
humanity
can
live
like

human.



今日乞丐




在城市中,乞丐是我们最熟悉的群体之一。他们伴随着我们的成长,从童年直到现
在 。在这个过程中,我发现,乞丐和我都在变。




小时候,每当 看到路旁的乞丐,通常是老人或残疾人,我会给他们一些零钱,并且
高兴地认为我帮了他们。




长大后,我发现身边乞丐的数量有所增加,而且他们种类繁多。他们无 所不在,天
桥上,大街上,饭馆旁,家门口,城市中处处是他们的身影。比起过去,今天的乞丐似乎更< br>加复杂,使得我在决定帮不帮他们的时候犹豫不决。




想到那些白天装作乞丐行乞,而夜晚换装后跑到宾馆作乐的人;想到那些被不法集
团控制,然后把乞讨来 的钱上交给集团的人,
我真的很难做到给他们钱。可是,想到那些真
正需要帮助的乞丐,又很难 做到不帮他们。如果不帮他们,我的同情心死到哪去了?

最让我难受的,并不是因为从众多的假乞丐中找出真乞丐是多么的困难,而是那些
被成人,甚至被父母教唆,去乞讨的孩子们。他们在歧视中长大,和主流社会脱离。当我看
到他 们眼睛里本应有的纯真和童稚被绝望和无耻取代时,
心里便很难受。
我们不知道他们长
大后会怎样面对这个世界,
他们的性格会被童年的经历塑造成什么样子,
以及他们有可能对社会做出怎样的事情
---
让恶性循环继续?




几个月前,福建省颁布了一项针对八类乞丐的新政策。网上调查显示,超过
80%
的< br>人对此政策持乐观态度。
虽然如此复杂的问题不能通过单单一项政策得以解决,
我们还是 期

In
my
early
years,
I
did
not
see
the
value
of
education.



When
I
was
going
on
thirteen,
I
started
to
run
my
own
shop.
From
then
on,
I
w
orked
hard
to
become
a
successful
businessman.



One
day
I
realized
the
importance
of
the
English
language
in
the
business
world
and
started
taking
night
classes.



I
was
able
to
communicate
well
with
foreign
customers
after
two
years
of
English

study.
But
I
started
to
feel
that,
in
the
long
run,
having
a
limited
knowledge
of
English
was
not
enough
to
make
my
business
successful.
I
knew
that
only
a
well-
rounded
educat
ion
could
guarantee
my
success
in
the
future.



When
I
was
eighteen,
I
had
to
make
a
decision
to
continue
doing
business
or
go

back
to
school.
There
was
one
obstacle
keeping
me
from
getting
an
advanced
education.

I
had
only
completed
elementary
school
up
to
that
point.
I
then
went
back
to
senior
hig
h
school
after
four
months
of
tutoring
in
different
subjects.
Being
at
school
for
the
first
ti
me
after
so
many
years
was
somewhat
embarrassing
because
my
classmates
were
at
least
two
or
three
years
younger
than
I.
I
concluded
that
my
age
did
not
matter.
The
important

thing
was
getting
into
college.



I
took
the
College
Entrance
Exams.
Although
my
math
exam
result
was
only
one

point
below
the
required
score.
I
never
gave
up
hope.
The
following
year,
I
took
it
agai

n
and
received
the
highest
score
in
my
city.
Achieving
such
an
amazing
result
gave
me
e
ncouragement
and
courage
necessary
to
continue
my
education
to
the
next
step.



I
am
now
in
my
second
year
of
college
and
know
that
it
is
never
too
late
to
lea
rn.
My
passion
for
studying
and
improving
myself
will
never
come
to
a
halt
as
long
as
I

continue
to
live.



―Live
and
Learn.‖
is
the
motto
I
have
adopted.
I
believe
with
an
education
I
will

succeed.
So,
if
you
are

whether
education
is
important,
don‘t
hesitate

年后再次回到学 校,

然而在我看来,

我参加了高考。虽然我的数学只比分数线低了一分。但我没有放弃。第二年,我又
参 加了高考并取得了当地的第一名。
得到这样一个令人欣喜的结果,
给了我进一步深造的动
力和胆量。




现在,我上大学二年级,也知道学无止境。只 要我活者,我对学习和自我充实的热
情就不会减退。





活到老,学到老

是我的座右铭。我坚信只有学习才会使我成功。因此,如果你对
接受教育的重要性有所怀疑,不要犹豫,勇敢的迈出第一步,这样幸运之神便会光顾你。

but

thinks

changing
himself.



He
is
right.
We
always
have
great
plans
and
dreams
in
our
minds…
too
ready
to

achieve
something
grand
that
changes
the
world
or
benefits
all
of
mankind
.For
example;

we
hate
pollution
and
have
made
up
our
minds
to
find
new
energy
sources
that
keep
th
e
environment
clean.
Yet
we
still
litter
on
the
ground.
We
complain
about
traffic
jams,
so

we
plan
to
build
more
highways
to
solve
the
problem,
but
it
never
occurs
to
us
that
our

failure
to
follow
traffic
regulations
is
the
leading
cause
of
this
situation.
We
are
so
conc
erned
that
the
violence
in
the
media
has
a
bad
impact
on
our
children,
we
urge
the
gover
nment
to
set
laws
to
protect
them.
But,
do
we,
as
adults,
set
a
good
example
for
our
kid
s?
We
use
nasty
words
and
even
spit
on
the
ground
in
front
of
them,
I
dare
to
say,
we
harm
more!



In
my
opinion,
before
we
decide
to
change
the
world,
we
had
better
change
ourse
lves
first.
As
ordinary
individuals,
we
do
not
have
the
power
to
change
the
world.
But
w
e
can
change
our
habit
of
littering,
spitting,
cussing,
we
can
respect
the
environment
arou
nd
us,
we
must
act
as
good
models
for
our
kids.



If
each
of
us
does
all
of
these
little
things,
all
of
us,
millions
and
millions
of
ind
ividuals
together,
together
we
will
be
strong
…strong
enough
to
change
our
world!



So
please,
the
next
time
you
do
something,
think
how
your
actions
influence
not
only
you,
but
those
around
you
too,
especially
our
children
…and
perhaps
more
important
ly…our
planet!

at

study.
In
many

opinion,
she

perfect.
But
one
day
she
told
me
she
was
gloomy
and
insecure.
People
around
her
considered
her
outstanding
and
flawless,
thinking
she
could
handle
everything.
But
the
mo
re
she
thought
about
herself,
the
more
disappointed
she
became.
She
found
that
she
was
f
ar
from
pe
rfection.
Last
week,
she
didn‘t
do
well
in
her
French
quiz,
and
the
day
before
yesterday,
she

late

felt
depressed

frustrated,

If

we

be
overcritical.

passionate

we
could
hard
ly
imagine
that
she
could
return
to
the
stage
after
her
paralysis.
In
the
year
1990,
this
Cu
ban
singer
was
knocked
down
in
a
traffic
accident,
and
the
doctor
declared
that
she
migh
t
never
walk
again.
But
Gloria
did
not
give
up
and
kept
up
constant
exercising.
Just
one
year
after
the
disaster,
she
stood
up
again
and
presented
this
encouraging
song
at
the
Atla
nta
Olympics.

would

importance
of
keeping
opti
mistic.
When
we
encounter
difficulties
in
life,
we
notice
that
some
of
us
choose
to
bury
t
heir
heads
in
the
sand.
Unfortunately,
however,
this
attitude
will
do
you
no
good,
because

if
you
will
have
no
courage
even
to
face
them,
how
can
you
conquer
them?
Thus,
be
o
ptimistic,
ladies
and
gentlemen,
as
it
can
give
you
confidence
and
help
you
see
yourself
t
hrough
the
hard
times,
just
as
Winston
Churchill
once
said,
―An
optimist
sees
an
opportu
nity
in
every
calamity;
a
pessimist
sees
a
calamity
in
every
opportunity.‖



Ladies
and
Gentlemen,
keeping
optimistic,
you
will
be
able
to
realize,
in
spite
of
some
hardship,
there‘s
always
hope
waiting
for
you,

to

ultimate

uccess.
Historically

currently,
there
are
too
many
optimists
of
this
kind
to
enu
merate.
You

optimistic;

the

would

rose
may

on

attitude

Hindrances

difficulties

exist,
but
if
you
are
optimistic,

then
they
are
only
episodes

way
to
the
throne

success;
they
