a short essay entitled more candidates for civil servant. you
should write at least 120 words following the outline given
below in chinese:

现在有越来越多的大学应届毕业生报考公务员，带来了一定的不
利因素；

more candidates for civil servant

nowadays many college graduates apply for civil servant
positions. it is true that the positions are ideal in terms of
incomes, employment security and respect of others. however,
the ever increasing number of applicants doesn’t necessarily
mean a good thing. the fever for civil servant has brought
some side effects. the side effects are listed as follows:

firstly, many students apply for the positions for wrong
reasons. some of them apply just because their friends do it or
because their parents want them. some, instead of aiming at
serve the people, have the intention of enjoying the interests
and power brought by their future position. secondly, too
many candidates compete for limited positions. take such hot
positions as those in the judicial branch of government for
example, it is estimated that one matriculate is selected out of
200 candidates. more worse, with the flow of most talents to
such positions, those positions that are important for social
welfare but inferior in personal welfare are left uninterested.
this should arouse our deep concern.

for my part, college students should be cautious when
deciding whether to apply for the positions. on the one hand,
they should not follow others blindly. on the other hand, there
are plenty of ways of employment and self-employment, so
why crowd on one bus? in a word, the fever should be cooled
down.

with the development of the society, more and more people
eoll in the postgraduate examination for getting a high diploma.
it is believed that high diploma equals to high ability and
profound knowledge. most companies are inclined to hire the
people with high diploma. it seems that having high diploma
means a better future.

however, is it really true that high diploma equals to high
ability or profound knowledge? some people do not agree on
this kind of idea. they claim that ability or knowledge means
more than diploma. take bill gates, the head of the microsoft,
for example, he does not have a mba degree which is believed
to play a vital role in the success in commercial life.
furthermore, sam walton of wal-mart stores inc. does not a
mba degree, but they are the most successful man in
commercial.

in my opinion, diploma does not equal to knowledge. a
diploma is a piece of paper which establishes your education
degree. but your true ability and the real knowledge come from
your hard work and endowment. if you got a diploma by
dishonest behavior, no matter how high a diploma it is, it was
just a piece of paper, and you were as blank as that paper.

today’s youth do things in their own way

these days. to some of them, personality means to be totally
different from who their parents used to be.

but the problem is that during their pursuit of their personal
goals they ignore some of the traditional virtues of which their
forefathers were proud. take the question of fidelity to elders
for example. with better education and different experiences,
some young peopl
e find it’s hard to agree with their parents
any longer. they have a feeling of superiority and even
sometimes turn their back on their elder parents.

to me, personality development and traditional virtues have
nothing to do with right or wrong. in our society, we need them
both. these virtues help you to become a better chinese, while
personality development will improve your own character.

perseverance

of all the advantageous characteristics to have, i think that
perseverance plays the greatest role in one’s success. other
characteristics, such as intelligence, confidence, and honesty,
are no doubt important, but they do not necessarily guarantee
success. perseverance offers no guarantees either, but i
believe that this trait offers one more opportunity to succeed.

there are several reasons why perseverance often leads to
success. first of all, a man who has perseverance does not
give up after a failure. he tries again and can, therefore, learn
from his mistakes. second, a persistent person is usually a
hard worker, and hard work is an important ingredient in
success. last, with perseverance comes a certain amount of
confidence

the confidence that one will eventually

succeed.

for all of these reasons, i believe that perseverance is the
most important characteristic to have. it is easily combined
with other traits such as diligence and confidence to increase
the chances of success. however, without
perseverance, one’s
success may be more dependent on luck than anything else.
