discussion
on
corporate
social
responsibility,
and
they
are
my
group members.

Lou:
In
the
1980s,
movements
of
corporate
social
responsibility
started
to
rise gradually, which involved Environmental Protection, Labor Security,
Human Rights and so on.
Corporate
social
responsibility
is
a
kind
of
moral
element
beyond
economy and law, which at least includes two aspects of content: on the
one
hand,
in
the
process
of
management
the
enterprise
should
take
necessary
responsibility
for
stakeholders;
on
the
other
hand,
the
enterprise should also consider the public interests and undertake more
significant responsibilities for the country and even the world.
Mingyang
Zhen:
In
fact
there
are
several
reasons
to
explain
why
Corporate
Social
Responsibility is becoming more and more important.
First and foremost, nowadays an increasingly well
—
informed breed
of
public
is
now
demanding
facts
about
the
business
community`s
social
and
environmental
performance
．
CSR
is
，
at
least
in
part,
a
response of the business community to complaints that it has failed to
create trusting relationships with the public

What
is
more
,from
the
point
of
companies
themselves,
the
importance of CSR embodied in that it is an important way to increase
the
competitiveness
of
companies.
Companies
are
now
expected
to
form
partnerships
with
their
stakeholders
．
They
must
find
ways
to
empower stakeholders with information which needs to be presented in
a way that is accessible, honest and engaging. They also should listen to
public`s opinion and involve them in key business decisions
．

Last but not least ,from the perspective of widespread society interest,
CSR
can
help
them
to
coordinate
the
economic,
social
and
environmental development and competition.
Lijie Zhang: In June 2011, a leaking accident happened in Penglai 19-3 oil field in
Bohai
Bay
which
is
developed
by
CNOOC
and
ConocoPhillips,
the
problem about the environment pollution on the host country caused by
foreign Investment enterprises was pushed in the teeth of the storm once
again. People have different opinions on the problem about whether the
environmental
pollution
on
the
host
country
caused
by
foreign
investment enterprises will be worse.
Fang Shang: In fact, similar to the environmental pollution caused by foreign direct
investment enterprises event has occurred in the international arena. It is
obvious
that
efficient
actions
should
be
taken
to
prevent
the
situation
from getting worse. And some investigations along with analysis on the
causes are necessary to make improvement.


Weiyi Zhang: First, the profit-driven nature of the foreign-funded enterprises lead to
the transfer of industry which causes serious pollution and more resource
consumption
to
other
countries,
especially
in
emerging
developing
countries,
thus
aggravating
the
pre-existing
problem
of
environmental
pollution
and
worsening
the
ecological
environment
in
emerging
developing countries. For example, due to the low degree of attention to
environmental
protection,
China
has
attracted
some
high- polluting
enterprises
which
lead
the
trend
that
China
has
become
a
haven
for
foreign pollution. The annual report from the Environmental Protection
Administration in China reveals that there are more than 10 provinces,
municipalities
and
autonomous
regions
existing
environmental
violations from foreign enterprises. These foreign companies are mostly
from Europe, America, Japan and other developed countries. And they
are involved in
food, electronics, chemicals,
machinery manufacturing,
causing serious negative impact on China's ecological environment.
Jinlong Lou: What
’
s more, between developed and emerging developing countries
there
is
a
big
difference
in
the
strict
environmental
regulations,
and
in
some
developing
countries
the
implementation
of
the
environmental
standards
are
not
strict
enough.
Many
pollution-intensive
enterprise
of
some
developed
countries
in
order
to
escape
their
own
strict
environmental regulations, reduce the costs of environmental protection,
have transferred their production bases to emerging developing countries,
so
these
foreign-funded
enterprises
will
cause
a
tremendous
negative
impact on the environment of the emerging developing countries.
Mingyang
Zhen:
Thirdly,
with
the
help
of
investment
activities
of
multinational
companies
across
national
borders,
the
development
of
international
direct investment made environmental problems which always appear in
one
country
become
international
environmental
issues.
Direct
investment
in
countries
with
lower
environmental
standards
equivalent
to
the
In order to
compete
with
the low standard
opponent, higher environmental standards of developed countries will be
destroyed. So the global environmental protection standards will also be
effected.
And
environmental
protection
in
emerging
developing
countries
will be hindered because of the race toward the lowest
point
competition.
Lijie
Zhang:
The
environmental
pollution
caused
by
foreign
enterprises
and
the
international financial crisis have certain correlation. China
，
for example,
according
to
statistics,
in
2008
when
has
a
financial
crisis
hit,
the
Industrial wastewater emissions is huge, the growth rate of papermaking
and paper products industry investment which have a negative impact on
the environment reached 11.6 percent; In the same year, the investment
growth rate of electricity, gas and water production and supply industries
which
have
great
negative
impact
on
the
environment
was
up
to
58.1
percent, much higher than 24.5 percent in 2009.
