分析】



【摘要】本文以格莱斯的会话合作理论为指导
,
以实证研究的方法分
析了一次 演讲比赛中回答评委提问环节得分最高和最低的两位选手
的语料
,
在此基础上提出要想 提高学生的口语技能和实际运用语言进
行交际的能力
,
有必要传授一定的语用知识。< br>

研究背景


格莱斯
(g rice)
的会话含意理论是理解自然语言的一种学说
,
这个理论
提出语言交 际的双方都有相互合作、求得交际成功的愿望
,
因此
,
谈话
的参与者 必须遵守一些诸如真实、充分、关联、清楚等原则和准则。
这就是
“
合作原则
”(cooperative principle)
。如果说话的一方在表面
违背了合作原则
,
那么他很有可能是故意为之。听话者就得根据当时
语境对原话加以推断
,< br>找到说话者故意违反合作原则的目的也就等于
真正明白了对方话中隐含的意义。格莱斯把这种在言 语交际过程中
推导得到的隐含意义称为
“
会话含意
”(conversati onal implica
-
ture)(
何自然
,1997:49)
。


格莱斯在提到合作原则及其四条准则的相关表述时全部使用了祈使
句
,
所以有人认为这些准则是规范性的
,
它们是在告诉实施会话交际的
双方该如何进行会话交际才能获得成功。这种观点常会被认为是对
会话理论的误读。胡壮麟就曾指出:

这使很多读者误认 为它们是规范性的

告诉说话人
应该怎样做。而事实上

国内有少数研究者还是从

的规范性角度进行
了一定的探究

。相比之下

此方面 国内的实证
研究同大量的有关会话含意的理论探讨研究相比则显得非常薄弱
,
所
以作者希望从新的角度用实证研究的方法来研究该原则
,
在实际生活
中尝试利用它来 分析一些会话的语料。这些会话处于特殊的语境之
中
,
但有些会话因为遵守合作原则比 较成功地达到交际的目的
,
同时有
些会话却因为无意识地违背了合作原则而导致交际的 失败。笔者所
指的会话交际即英语演讲比赛中非常重要的一个互动环节
,
即选手回答评委提问的环节。时下国内的一项重大赛事就是中央电视台和外
语教学与研究出版社联合主办的< br>cctv
杯全国英语演讲大赛。笔者辅
导南京林业大学选手参加了江苏省赛区总决赛的过 程中触发了利用
合作原则分析选手回答提问的特殊语境下的会话语料的念头。


合作原则的四大准则


格莱斯提出的
cp
有四大准则
(maxims):

1)
数量的准则
(quantity maxim)
；

a)
使所说的话正好满足当前交谈所需要的信息
;

b)
使所说的话不要多于需要的信息。

2)
质量的准则
(qualitymaxim)
；

不要说自知是虚假的话
;

不要说缺乏足够证据的话。

关系的准则
(relation maxim)
；

4)
方式准则
(manner maxim)
；

避免晦涩
;

该原 则的前三条规定了人们为了实现成功交际应该

说什么
”,
第四条
则 有关

怎么说
”
。如果交谈双方都遵守该原则就能使交流顺利进行

是说话人缺乏语用知识

研究设计和实施过程


本次研究采用先全程录像再结合转写进行分析的方法 。笔者录下了
校内一场选拔赛的决赛过程。参赛选手共十名
,
四男六女。最终转写的是回答评委提问得分最高和最低的两位选手的回答提问环节的对
话部分。评委们给选手此环节评分 的标准参照
