Located in the east of Jiangxi, Fuzhou enjoys the
reputation of the home of scholars and the land of
literature since ancient time. The gorgeous Linchuan
Culture glows with bright luster. Related close to
politics, economy and culture, Fuzhou religion has
always been the concern of the society and people, has
survived many vicissitudes and till now it has become
an important part of Linchuan Culture. Like other
places nationwide, the history of Fuzhou religion
mainly includes Buddhism, Christianity and Taoism and
has
been
characterized
by
regional
culture.
For
example,
ever since Buddhism was first disseminated in Fuzhou
in
late
East
Han
Dynasty,
above
seventy
temples
and
more
than
5,000
Buddhists
had
been
established
in
Fuzhou
in
Jin
Dynasty
and
Southern
and
Northern
Dynasty;
in
Tang
Dynasty, not only did Fuzhou own a lot of
worldwide-famous temples like Shigong Temple, Caoshan
Temple and Shushan Temple, but it was the origin of
Caodong clan and Fayan clan. Fuzhou is famous as the
center of all the Zen because it cradled some sects of
Buddhism Zen.
