前言：笔者以前讲解了读

问题。浙江的续 写类似小说的写作，我们不仅要能完成续写，还要把文章写得优美、生
动。那么怎样才能把文章写得优美 、生动呢？笔者今天介绍
show-don’t tell
这种写作方
法。

1.

combine telling and showing skillfully

叙述（
telling/narration
）能 推动故事情节的发展，而故事情节的合理和清晰是写好小说类
文章的关键，所以在续写时该叙述时就得叙 述。



描写
（
showing/description
）
:
动 作描写，
细节描写，
心理描写等能使文章优美、
生动。
小
说类文章最 终的目的是要给读者美的享受，
因此我们要根据具体情况，
灵活利用各种描写，
力争使 自己的文章成为一篇美文。

1) After three days without a call from John, Tina had enough.(telling)

该描述细节 时要描述细节，使文章美丽、生动。但是如果细节描写过多，影响故事情节的
发展，则得不偿失，所以细 节描写要把握住分寸。

As his mother switched off the light and left the room, Michael tensed. He huddled under
the covers, gripped the sheets, and held his breath as the wind brushed past the curtain.

Tina threw herself on the floor and kicked her legs. “I want it! I want it! I want It!”

The dog tucked its tail and whined.

1) She struggled to keep her face expressionless as her father patted Tom on the shoulder. Yeah,
of course, Daddy’s golden child can do no wrong.

“They look nothing alike”, he thought. “I should have known Giselle was not Ariana.”

阅读下面短文，根据所给情节进行续写，使之构成一个完整的故事。

It was a rainy November morning. Overcome with anger I knew if I didn’t leave the house
soon I would lose my temper with my husband, Joe. As rain came down in sheets, Joe offered to
take me to work. I struggled into my jacket, seized my bag and teaching plans and ignored him.

He insisted and reached for his boots. I looked at the piles of newspapers and the dirty dishes
still on the table.
“Don’t you have enough to do? I can take care of myself.” I stormed out, not even

kissing him good-bye. Joe shouted after me not to take the shortcut (

).

Joe and I had been eagerly looking forward to our retirement when a heart attack that past
spring forced him to leave his job earlier than we had planned. As the medical bills mounted we
realized

would
have
to
continue
working
full-time
while
Joe
stayed
home
and
took
over

housework.

The new arrangement was a disaster. Exhausted after a day of full work, all I wanted was a
