A
(
2019
中考科普环保类选练)
Being able to
multitask
—
doing several
things at the same time
—
is
considered
(
考
虑,认为
)
a
welcome
skill
by
most
people.
But
if
we
consider
the
situation
of
the
young
people aged from eight
to eighteen, we should think again.
What we often see nowadays is that
young people juggle a larger number of electronic
devices
(
电子产品
)
as
they
study.
While
working,
they
also
surf
on
the
Internet,
send
out
emails,
answer
the
telephone
and
listen
to
music
on
their
iPods.
In
a
sense,
they
are spending a large
amount of time in fruitless efforts
(
努力
) as they multitask.
Multitasking
is
even
changing
the
relationship
between
family
members.
As
young
people
give so much attention to their own
worlds, they seem to have no time to spend with
the
other
people
around
them.
They
can
no
longer
greet
family
members
when
they
enter
the house, nor can
they eat at the family table.
Multitasking also has an effect
(
影响) on young people’s performance at
university
and
in
the
workplace.
When
asked
about
their
opinions
of
the
effects
of
modern
gadgets
(
器具
) on their
performance of tasks, many young people gave a
positive (
肯定的
)
response
(
回应
).
However,
the
response
from
the
worlds
of
education
and
business
was
not
quite as positive. Educators feel that
multitasking by children has a serious
effect
on
later
development
of
study
skills.
They
believe
that
many
college
students
now need help to
improve their study skills. Similarly, employers
(
雇主
) feel that
young
people
entering
the
job
market
need
to
be
taught
all
over
again,
as
modern
gadgets
have made it unnecessary
(
没必要
) for them to learn
special skills to do their work.

3. What’s the main idea of the last

) a
lot from modern gadgets.

people.

young people’s development seriously.

people don’t need to improve their study
skills.

skills.

) the passage

When so
mething goes wrong,
it can be very satisfying to say, “Well, it’s
so-and-
so’s
mistake.”
or
“I
know
I’m
late,
but
it’s
not
my
mistake;
the
bus
was
late.” It
is probably not your mistake, but once you form
the habit of blaming(责
备
)
somebody
or
something
else
for
a
bad
situation,
you
are
a
loser.
You
have
no
power
and
could
do
nothing
that
helps
change
the
situation.
However,
you
can
have
great
power
over
what
happens
to
you
if
you
stop
paying
attention
to
whom
to
blame
and
start
paying
2
attention to how to
impr
ove the situation. This is the
winner’s key to success.
Winners are great at
overcoming(
克服
) problems. For
example, if you were late
because the
bus was late, maybe you need to leave home early.
Or, you might call a
taxi
or
call
friends
for
help
when
in
need.
For
another
example,
if
your
workmate
causes
you problems on the job
for
short of
responsibility(
责任心<
/p>
) or ability,
find ways of
dealing with his irresponsibility or
inability rather than simply blame the person.
Ask to work with a different person, or
leave this person with some simple jobs. You
should
accept that the
person is not
reliable(
可靠的
) and
find creative
ways to
work
successfully regardless of how your
workmate fails to do his job well.
This
is
what
being
a
winner
is
all
about
—
creatively
using
your
skills
and
talents
so
that
you
are
successful
no
matter
what
happens.
Winners
don’t
have
fewer
problems
in
their
lives
;
they
have
just
as
many
difficult
situations
to
face
as
anybody
else.
They are just better
at seeing those problems as
challenges(
挑战
) and chances
to
develop
their
own
talents.
So,
stop
paying
attention
to
“whose
mistake
it
is.”
Once
you are
confident about your power over bad situations,
problems are just stepping
stones for
success.

“I
sometimes get up at three or four in the morning
and I surf the net.”
“I
often check my e

mail forty
times a day.”
“I often spend
more than three hours during one
time
on the net.
”
“I
spend more time in chat rooms(聊天室) than with my

.
”
Do
you
know
any
people
like
these?
They
are
part
of
a
new
addiction(
瘾
)
called
Internet
addiction. Internet addicts spend at
least thirty to forty hours online every week.
The
use
of
the
Internet
can
be
an
addiction
like
drug(
毒品
)
use.
People
lose
control(
控
制
) of the time they spend on the Internet
For
example,
one
college
student
was
missing
for
several
days.
His
friends
were
worried,
and they called the
police. The police found the student in the
computer lab: he was
surfing the net
for several days straight.
Studies
show that about 6 to 10% of Internet users become
addicted. And people worry
about the
teens because the Internet is changing the playing
field for some of them.
They spend more
time in cyberspace than in the real world of
friends and family.
Is “surfing
the
net” a hobby or an
addiction for you? You may have
a problem if you
have these
symptoms(
症状
):
●You do not go to important family
activities or you do
not do school work
because
you like to spend hours on the
Internet.
●You can’t wait for your next
online time
.
●
You plan to spend a short
time online, but then you spend several hours.
