Unit8
试题及
答案
Many people
like setting family rules for their kids. 1
In fact, when
you tell your kids about a
new rule,
you should talk with them about the price they
should pay for breaking the
rule
—
what
the
punishment will be.
2
For example, if
you find your son smoking, you may limit his
social activities for two
weeks. You
should punish your kids only in ways you have
discussed with them before the rule is
broken.
3
It’s
understandable that you’ll be angry when rules are
bro
ken.
4
Sharing your feelings of
anger or sadness with your kids can
have a better effect on them. When your kids know
what they
have done has made you sad,
they will feel guilty.
5
Rules are made
to help your kids behave better. If your rules or
ways of punishment make
them unhappy or
under a lot of pressure, are they helpful?
A. A study shows that the most popular
punishment is to limit kids’ TV time.
B. When they know their actions
influence you greatly, they will obey rules
better.
C. When kids break rules,
parents will give them some punishments.
D. Punishments should be reasonable.
E. Punishment is a way to express your

The oldest
Snack in History
Pop! Pop! Pop! That is
the sound of Americans making their favorite
snack.
Americans began eating popcorn
at the movies in 1912. But people have been
eating this healthy snack for thousands
of years.
Native
Americans ate popcorn. They also used popcorn to
make jewelry
like necklaces. They
brought popcorn to the Pilgrims on the first
Thanksgiving.
The Pilgrims loved this
new food. They put cream on it and ate popcorn
cereal
for breakfast.
One of the early ways to pop corn was
over a fire. Native Americans would
put
a corncob on a stick. They would hold the corn
over the fire. The kernels of corn popped right on
the cob. Later, people popped their
corn in clay pots. Today you do not need a fire or
a pot. You can
use a microwave to pop
the corn.
What makes popcorn pop? There
is a drop of water inside each kernel of corn.
When the kernel
gets very, very hot,
the moisture inside turns to steam. The steam
makes the kernel pop open.
Many people like to flavor their
popcorn. Other people put sugar on it to make it
taste sweet.
Some popcorn can taste
like cheese or chocolate. Popcorn tastes good, and
it is good for you if you
don’t put too
much butter, salt, cheese, or chocolate on it.
