阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短
文。
The Meredith family lived in a small community, As the economy was in decline, some
people in the town had lost their jobs. Many of their families were struggling to make
ends meet. People were trying to help each other meet the challenges.
Mrs. Meredith was a most kind and thoughtful woman. She spent a great deal of time
visiting the poor. She knew they had problems, and they needed all kinds of help.
When she had time, she would bring food and medicine to them.
One morning she told her children about a family she had visited the day before.
There was a man sick in bed, his wife, who took care of him and could not go out to
work, and their little boy. The little boy -his name was Bernard-had interested her
very much.
“I wish you could see him,” she said to her own children, John, Harry, and Clara. “He
is such a help to his mother. He wants very much to earn some money, but I don't see
what he can do.”
After their mother left the room, the children sat thinking about Bernard. “I wish we
could help him to earn money.” said Clara. “His family is suffering so much.”
“So do 1,” said Harry. “We really should do something to assist them.”
For some moments, John said nothing, but, suddenly, he sprang to his feet and cried,
“I have a great idea! I have a solution that we can all help accomplish（完成）.”

The other children also jumped up all attention. When John had an idea, it was sure
to be a good one. “I tell you what we can do,” said John. “You know that big box of
com Uncle John sent us？Well, we can make popcorn（爆米花）, and put it into paper
bags, and Bernard can take it around to the houses and sell it.”

本文主要讲述的是：三个孩子在有限的条件下，帮助了另外一个想要帮助父母维< br>持生活的小男孩的故事。
在社会经济萧条的环境下，大家仍保留自己的善良，互相帮助。文中妈妈Mrs.
Mered ith一直乐于助人。一个充满爱心的妈妈，身体力行，在自己的三个孩子心
中播种了爱和善良的种子。 虽然文章没有详述，但显而易见，对孩子产生了积极
的影响，所以当她给孩子讲述了Bernard小男 孩一家的情况，三个孩子John, Harry
和Clara非常渴望帮助他，并且确实想出了一个 好主意—即把家里的玉米做成爆
米花，让Bernard在社区售卖。
读后续写是一种将阅读和写作紧密结合的综合语言能力测试。读是输入，写是输
出。
两个输入：一.有效提取有效的文本信息 ；二.获取语言运用特点和风格。
两个输出：一. 将有效的文本信息组合并且做出合乎逻辑的推测，二.应用和原文
文本相一致的语言组织思维。
此外,学生还需要有语篇结构意识。特别重要的是coherence -- logical connection or

consistency ( 韦氏大词典)，即语言连贯。续写的两段文字需要和原文，段首提示
句均保持逻辑一致性，连贯性和有序 性。
创新性思维(想象力)也是重要的一个因素。续写的文本要想象创造合理丰富的内
容，详 细生动的场景描述，心里描述和动作描述。这样才能让续写更加契合原文，
达成创造性地表达意义。
这节课的设计思路：主要抓住两个层次：setting 和两条主线。
1.获取故事背景信息，即setting。
2.关注两条主线：plot—即谁做了什么，为什么；feelings – 即谁感觉如何。
plot属于明线，可以从文本中获得这些信息。feelings 则是暗线，需要进行合理
的推测。
3.通过图示宏观展示plot的发展：Meredith 一家乐于助人，而Bernard一家需要
帮助。两家人产生交集，交汇点则是孩子们的互动：即Mer edith家的三个孩子积
极思考，想出了帮助Bernard的方法—售卖爆米花。
4.通 过微观结构的分析，获取文章的内部连贯性，即可交叉两家人的情感线索：
Meredith 乐于帮助，而Bernard 需要帮助。通过互动，双方都得偿所愿，情感自
然是激动、感激相互交织。
5.得出文章的主题：Love and Kindness
6.通过plot diagram 进一步梳理原文文本的信息，方便下一步的续写。
7.通过对Given sentences段首句的分析， 推测出每段的主要内容，构建出续写的
框架。
8.通过 框架，预设需要用到的写作手法，使下一步的续写，不仅内容一致，而且
语言风格连贯。
9.根据支架理论，平时多提供给学生创设最近发展区内的语言情景，或学生自主

多阅读英文原著小说. 英语美文等叙事类文本, 才更有利于学生续写的最 后的产
出。所以给出迷你语料库：心理描写，动作描写，场景描写及结尾。选取的语料
库，均是 话题或者场景相关。有些不能直接套用，需要学生进行加工、改进，内
化为自己的语言。
