The other day in the grocery store, I was hurrying to get quite a few things I needed in between soccer
games. Before the checkout stands 1 rapidly scanned the various aisles and decided on one where there was only
one full cart. Standing in the line with my children, I took my wallet out, making sure that I would have the money
ready to pay for the groceries by the time I got my mm.

Slowly we made our way to the cashier. When we finally reached the stand and began unloading the dart to
pay for our many items, I noticed in the line behind us was the sweetest lady who was quietly searching through
her wallet to find the money she needed to purchase the seven or eight items she had in her cart. I imagined she
probably lived on a limited income and might benefit, even just a little, from having her groceries paid for her.

I turned to the cashier and said,

My children, aged twelve, seven and three, quietly watched what was going on.

children out the doors.

As I walked away, I heard her ask the cashier.

My smile deepened. Well, it felt not bad lifting a stranger's whole day. I just loved it.

But the act of paying for the groceries wasn't the best part.

The best part was answering all the questions from my children after my three-year-old child said;

36. 'Which of the following can we safely infer from the first paragraph?

A. The writer was eager to be back for soccer games.

B. The grocery store was crowded with people.

C. The writer was very careful with his money.

D. The writer's family bought plenty of food every day.
37. Why did the writer think the lady would benefit from his act?

A. He believed the lady would have a better luck because of his good wish.

B. He imagined that the lady asked him to pay for her with her sweet eyes.

C. He believed the lady would not like to wait in the line from his own experience.

D. He guessed that the lady might have a tight budget from the few items she put in her cart.
38. The three-year-old child

A. was proud of the writer because he had done a good deed

B. was puzzled why the writer paid the lady for just a smile

C. thought the writer bought the lady's groceries but didn't take them

D. considered the writer to be a kind-hearted daddy
39.
If
the

is
familiar
with
Chinese
network
culture,

asked
for
his
name,
he
would
probably
say,

_______

B. Don't crush on me. I'm just a legend

This morning I received a beautiful hand-made card in the post. The envelope was marked
who could be saying thanks to me?

When I opened it I discovered it was from a lady I had sent a free gift to on eBay. She was completely

overwhelmed by this random act of kindness from a stranger and has since made the card especially for me with
pink butterflies on the front. It was lovely ! The thing that really surprised me was that she actually used the words

when using those three words.

However, is there a word in our English language more misunderstood

or abused than love?

Think of your favourite song, whatever genre, and it almost certainly
will focus on love, or at least some
similar feelings closely related to love. Country music emphasizes unreturned love; light rock may be about bitter
love; and hard rock often stresses the physical side of love. There is even a station on my satellite radio that is
dedicated totally to love songs!

Love
is

extremely
emotive

and

media in general.

family will love.

You
may
remember
The
Love
Boat,
a
TV'
series
in
the
1980s
which
simulated
(
模拟
)the
supposedly
romantic environment of a large cruise ship. Relationships on The Love Boat, as I recall, were fleeting(
短暂
)and
amusing (which was enhanced with a laugh track).

On V
alentine's Day the flower shops and chocolate stores are loaded with shoppers -- mostly husbands --who
are picking up gifts for wives who will receive them as symbols of love.

We all want to be loved. An article I read a few years .ago reported on a group of British psychiatrists who
felt 50 percent of their patients could' be released from hospital care if they knew someone loved them.

Many young men today may owe their violent and criminal behavior partly to the fact they weren't loved by a
caring father (although this of course does not excuse their conduct in any way).

Genuine
love
is
unconditional.
If
a
spouse;
parent
or
child
tells
you
be
or
she
loves
you,
it
needs
no
explanation.

Do you feel loved today? Are there one or two people in your life who love you, just the way. you are? And
are you brave enough to say ']I love you
40. What can we learn about the writer from the first two paragraphs?

A. He was so surprised to receive the love letter from a strange lady he met on eBay.

B. The lady got to know the writer because he had once sent her a free gift.

C. He is such a positive spirit as to love so freely while others are cautious with love.
