people’s pets than ever before. i can hardly agree with those
who wish to place tougher restrictions on pet owners. the
pleasures and benefits of pet ownership should be available to
everyone.

unarguably, pets have long been considered an important
member of the family. dogs were first domesticated around
12,000 b.c. for hunting and protection. pets fulfil a basic human
desire by offering unconditional love and affection. they make
us feel needed and important by their dependence on us.

next, animals aid in relaxation and decrease anxiety. petting
an animal is a rhythmic, repetitive activity, which can act as a
way to calm our mind. interacting with an animal has been
shown to reduce the cardiovascular, behavioral and
psychological indicators of stress. for example, watching fish
in an aquarium was found to be as effective as hypnosis in
reducing anxiety.

another major contribution by animals is eiching time they
provide to us. pets are nonjudgmental playmates, willing to
chase a ball, go for a walk, or interact with us. play is an
essential feature of social, intellectual, physical and emotional
growth for children. in an era when the population is ageing
and more people are living alone, pets can provide valuable
playtime to the elderly and childless families.

all in all, these furry friends play an important role in our life.
they provide unfailing friendship and nonjudgmental
companionship. having a pet in the city can be a rewarding
experience for all concerned provided that their owners take
sensible precautions to silence those who protest about the
pet ownership.

is a blessing or a curse?

recently, the debate of whether single-gender school is a
positive educational existence has been once again put into

value of coeducation. here i intend to analyze the pros and

parents, believe that it is beneficial for children to study in
single- gender schools. one of their major arguments for their
belief is that appropriate curriculum and courses can be made

that campus love affairs can be effectively prevented, for no
communication between different genders is possible in
single-gender school.

consequently, students are able to devote themselves fully to

is disadvantageous for the adolescent development of
students, if they are taught separately. lacking the realistic
preparation for the society in which they will be expected to

separately may have the tendency to have major

must result in communication barrier when they are expected
to cooperate, thus conflicts may occur.

in a word, from the above analysis, we may safely draw the
conclusion that single-gender school has both positive and
negative effects. what we must to do is to guarantee that the
positive ones are encouraged and the negative ones are
eliminated as far as possible. we must bear in mind one truth,
that is, any action violating the rule of the nature will lead to
failure sooner or later. personally, i hold the opinion that it is
beneficial for students to grow in an environment where proper

when people are vulnerable to the glamour of american
burgers, the democratization of foods high in fat, sugar and
salt is creating a health hazard. i strongly recommend people
to opt for traditional way of cooking for the sake of your health

recently tv viewers have been bombarded by evening news
stories promoting gun control, which triggers

not. some argue that the policemen must have guns to protect
their security, whilst others oppose by claiming that guns will
give rise to more bloodsheds. i support the former opinion
without reservation.

the gun is an indispensable weapon for the cops to deter the
crime from happening. imagine if the police patrol the street
without guns, the robbers won’t hang back in face of the police
and grab the bank in broad daylight. it is the guns on the
policemen that make those who commit crimes recoil at the
sight of the policemen like a mouse in face of a cat.

next, the pistol serves as a safeguard for the police to defend
from the attack from the evildoers. for example, in a life-and-
death struggle, the gunned daredevils will try to shoot our
policemen to death, whose lives are endangered. without gun,
it would be small chance for our policemen to get the better of
these criminals, let alone catch them. the police are the people
who support and enforce the law and protect the mandate of
the people. their duty justifies them in retaining the rights of
self-defense and gun ownership.

it is ridiculous to contend that the policemen should be
disarmed to ensure the security. what’s worrying me is that
such nonsense elicits active hostility toward police and ruins
the police reputation. the police endeavour to ensure that our
individual freedoms are not weakened or infringed upon, who
are entitled to the gun ownership.
