Nowadays, human beings are faced with an embarrassing situation.
In the cartoon, we can see a man talking to a paper bird kept in his cage and
beside him is a vast desert dotted with endless tree roots. Obviously, birds have lost
their homes as people have cut down all the trees. As a result, humans have lost their
animal friends.
The scene may seem ridiculous and unbelievable to us, but it may become a reality

As we can see from the cartoon, manufacturers, milk stations, milk cows and even
grass are trying in vain to make excuses for the misconduct. After careful
consideration, we come to realize that the drawer wishes to call our attention to the
lack of social responsibility and business ethics.
With the change of people’s ideology, people take it for granted that we make a
fortune. Driven by the pursuit of profit, some manufacturers go to extremes to make
money by providing the customers with fake or inferior products. A case in point is
“Sanlu milk powder”, which is confirmed to contain a poisonous chemical. As a result,
numerous innocent infants become the victims of the milk food. In the long run,
such illegal acts not only damage the dairy industry, but the credibility of the social
mechanism.
To my mind, it is high time we took effective measures to prevent such crime
from happening again. It is advisable to pass related law to punish whoever produces
poisonous food. Only in this way can we establish a harmonious society where
manufactures take up more social responsibility and credibility and people enjoy
healthy food.

Recently, six universities in Shanghai made English language
compulsory in their joint exams, and left out Chinese.
There is no doubt that the English language is a very important
medium of education. But that is no reason why we should forget the
importance of our mother tongue and traditions and culture. It is the
Chinese language that makes China a nation. Once we have a thought that
our mother tongue is not important, our nation will be in danger.
With the development of China, Chinese has become a worldwide
language. Many people in the world start to learn Chinese. Being the
Chinese, we should feel proud of our mother tongue.
Chinese is one of the oldest languages in the world. You should love your
mother language if you want to love your nation.
Therefore, we should view our mother tongue as a necessity. Only
through our own language can our culture find glory it truly deserves.

Modern technology has many advantages. While we enjoy the fun and convenience of the
Internet, we also experience some new problems. This caricature describes one of them. It shows
that the teenage boy is enjoying chatting online so much that he refuses to talk to his parent. I
think it might be common, but it is totally unacceptable. Nothing can replace face-to- face
communication no matter how easy or interesting it is for us to chat with people from across the
world on the Internet.
In most Chinese families, there is only one child. Obviously, we are the centre of our parents’
attention. Many parents are willing to do anything to make sure that we live a good life. It is
understandable that they want to know what’s happening to us, what kind of friends we make and
how we are getting on with our studies.
I think we should let them know us well. For example, we can tell them what’s going on in

We all have some keys in life, some visible and others invisible. Visible keys play

As we can see from the picture, a person was persuaded into a small cage by the
two men down. The cage, with some snakes inside, was high up on four columns. He was
told that he would be cured of his fear of snakes, heights, small spaces and
commitment in just six hours in that way.
According to my understanding, the picture is describing a person with some
mental disability. He prefers to stay in large spaces with others’ company. The two
men down are very good doctors, trying to help cure the person of his illnesses.
Instead of giving him some medicine, they had their own way of treating this patient,
having him face his mental problems directly. The doctors think it more difficult for
such patients to recover if they are only treated by means of pleasing them.
I think life is full of ups and downs. One can’t step away from challenges or avoid
responsibility. On the contrary, we should face them with courage and wisdom

We Want Our Schoolbags Lighter
The picture shows that a girl is wearing a pair of glasses and
carrying a big heavy schoolbag, and a woman is doing some exercise.
The girl says to the woman, “If you carry the schoolbag for me, I’m sure
you will lose some weight.”
As is well-known, we Chinese students are overburdened with lessons and homework
which our teachers have given us. All that we do every day is to listen to our teachers’ lessons, to
take notes and do our homework which seems endless.
We do hope our teachers will help us get more knowledge with fewer lectures, exercises and
less homework. Only in this way will we have spare time to do more physical exercise and make
us stronger, and we will have more spare time to take part in some social activities, which makes

In the picture we can see the mother hen invites a tutor – a goose to
teach her baby chickens to swim. It is known to all that birds like chickens

Nowadays, many parents are treating their children like the mother hen. They expect their sons

What Will the Child Become?
Look at this picture. It is a picture of a family of five.

They’re Thinking Along the Same Line
Here we see two men of a similar type. They happen to be riding in the same street, along the
same side but from opposite directions. Neither of them wants to give way to the other. Great
minds think alike. Today their minds happen to run along the same line: “Anyway he wouldn’t
dare to run into me.” In no time they’ll crash into each other, fall to the ground and roll together
into the same ditch. Hopefully, from this incident, they will draw the same lesson: follow the
traffic rules.

The Change of Load
From the two pictures, we can see that before the learning load is reduced, students carry a lot
of books with them every day, wet with sweat. However, after the learning load is reduced, tuition
makes many parents get into debt because their children have to go to college for a good future.
At present, many students can’t afford the heavy tuition, for which many of them will have to
say good-bye to school or their parents will have a heavy debt load. When we call for reducing the
students’ learning load, we should also call on the tuition to be reduced.
