of
the
self-made
rich,
and
he
became
well-known
for
his

philanthropy,
including
millions

dollars

donations
to
the
New
York
Public
Library,
the
establishment

Carnegie
Institute
of
Technology
in
Pittsburgh
(Carnegie-Mellon
University
today),
and
the
